autoswitch fault

hi guys, wondered if anyone has had problems with autoswitch as6b. i have just fitted one to my 1200gsa model year 06 with canbus and it has failed. i have spoken to raul at autoswitch and he was very helpful. basically what was happening was when the bike was running the led was flashing on and off slow. (as if it was losing voltage feed). then when i was driving the aux lights would turn themselves off. i checked and re-soldered all joints inc the signal wire to the tcs wire under tank. i done this twice so to be 100% sure the connections were good.then the aux lamps would not come on at all, but the led would go green all but briefly then go red again and then flash. so i checked voltage at violet relay energising wire and no voltage present. so i would concur that the as6b was faulty. on speaking to Raul he concurs with me however he did say that it was poss that the bike could be sending dirty signals to as6b via tcs.(dont know bout that though).so called NN and fair play they are replacing the said as6b f.o.c.so what i am asking is has anyone experienced these or similar probs???NN say they have never had one go faulty. (is it as6b or bike)

Autoswitch AS6R problem

Hi all.
Just fitted above switch to a '06 12GS and it won't work. All connections appear good (I connected sender wire orange/red to blue/white wire leaving box under tank) All other connections as directions. When I press turn signal cancel button, red LED illuminates after 2/3 second delay but does not flash green as promised.
Has anyone had similar problems and been able to correct them? I don't want to reassemble the bike and then have to strip it
all over again.

i have wired plenty of the autoswitches and have not had one fail (yet)

however

i am aware of a potential problem with the switch if the bike is fitted with HID lighting.

as the electrical noise from the hid ballast can interfere with the pulse coding for the switch

again, i have not encountered this problem myself. i always splice directly to the indicator switch wiring at the switch not the fusebox.

Autoswitch problems

It seems likes from your post that you have HID lights on the bike.
They are an abortion when HID lights are on the bike. 2 out of 3 HID light work with them the other one will not. (Not make specific)
Read my posts on the subject.
The man in the States who makes the damn things actually emailed me around 9 months ago to see what I had identified as the problems, & said a redesign would be neccessary to cope with HID lights.

If you are still in problems post a message for me.

I'm not using HID, in fact I've only got as far as testing it to see if it works before I reinstate de tank.
I'm not an mechanic or anything like that, I just followed the instructions in the bag and it won't fcukin work.
I wonder what's next?

If there are no HID lights whatsoever on the bike, Autoswitches normally work perfectly.
I will look at previous posts & drawings & see if I can provide any help.

Hi Mike.

Mine is wired as per your diagram.
Would it make any difference if I did not disconnect battery, or pull the plug from the computer before making connection to blue white wire. I didn't short any wires cause there is no way to.

I tried disconnecting battery and leaving it disconnected to see if it would reset etc. But no luck!
If I press TSC with computer plug removed LED stays lit when I let go of TSC.

AS6 and AS6B2 Product Advisory

Since this thread is relavent, I've read on sportouring.com that the above switches is to be discontiued. It reads:

This applies to Autoswitch Model AS6 and AS6B2 installed on BMW CAN-BUS Motorcycles 1200 series year 2007 and up only. No AS5 series are affected.

There are a number of these bikes (USA models 20% estimated) which emit some sort of EMP (ElectroMagnetic Pulse) from their electrical system. BMW has recently released a technical bulletin related to "spurious signals" from the bike. The EMP causes the Autoswitch AS-6B and AS6B2 to reset itself. The reset causes the Autoswitch circuit or microchip to perform a power-on sequence. The Autoswitch always powers up in the OFF state thus the reset leaves the driving lights OFF until rider performs a new ON sequence. In simpler terms, the lights will turn OFF and must be turned ON again. The EMP happens at unpredictable times, depending on engine RPM and time in use.

Because we have been unable to duplicate the problem on test bikes we are unable to offer a solution or repair at this time. Unable to make a major R&D investment and keep price levels where buyers prefer, the AS6 and 6B2 will be phased out end of 2009. The AS5 series will continue through 2010.

This begs the question. The as6 series is still advertised for sale, do I use these or will the as5 series suffice for CAN bus bikes? My goal is to switch the Centech Ap-1 on or off that will be powering the satnav, intercom etc.

Any advise from the pool of wisdom (bunch of tossers)?

I do not like autoswitch with HID lights, they are too hit & miss.Some work, others do not. See my other posts on the subject.
But for strobe lights you are probably ok. They are nove when they work.
