Ok, so I've got a pair of micro de's and FF50's that were fitted by the previous owner. When I bought it they were wired straight to the battery with a switch to make them live hidden behind the ignition barrel. After fitting a fuse panel I got my mechanic to get rid of the switch & wire it up so they were live on ignition (courtesy of the fuse panel).
The other thing bugging me was the wiring, which is all situated behind/under the oil cooler. Not only is it an eye sore the relays are open to the elements. As a result I want to rewire the lot in a nice orderly fashion. I was thinking of placing the relays in the fuse box, however if anyone can suggest an alternative I'm all ears.
Wiring one pair of lights seems simple enough, but I couldn't find any example diagrams for a set up similar to mine which ideally I would like to see as I'm not much of an electrcian. I edited a picture I found on a jeep forum that I think is what I should be looking at doing...grateful if anyone could confirm that it looks about right?
Also have some other questions...
- wires...do they have to be a certain ampage(?)
- can the live feed to the illuminated switches be tapped from the live to the relays? Do they need a seperate fuse?
- can the earth from the switches be close by (handlebar?) or must it be earthed with the rest of the wiring?
I think that's it for now. Apologies for the essay & sorry if it doesn't all make sense, I'm not too clued up with the jargon
