Aux lights

Jamie,

If you want to come over to mine, I'll sort it for you for now't. I can even sell you some cheap Hellas (FF50 driving, FF50 Fog or Micro DE) they start at £34.

I've plenty of relays, wiring etc.

Let me know if you're interested.

Rob and Michel

Looks like a good place to say thanks to Rob who supplied a motoswitch and Hella ff50s and also to Michel for a lightbar.

Everything is now fitted to my 1150 and is a great job. I can see in the dark again!!

All your bits worked as they should and were straightforward to fit.

Thanks Lads

Now I'm Confused !

All this diode stuff etc.

I want to light up like a Christmas tree on high beam with four spots on my newly aquired Migsel light bar. On dipped beam I want fogs & dipped. In town I want to switch off my fogs. Dipped beams on at same time with main - correct? (Mr Farmers switch is on the way) Mr Farmers switch on fog relay ? It's on a 03 GSA - no light switch. Also got a copy of Mike Os' wiring diagram.

Sort me out please.

Relays

Gazza,
Will the relays that come with the hella lights be O.K. to use with your wiring diagram ?,

Think I read a thread about chucking them and using some from Maplin, but car,nt remember wot it was in relation too ?

Plucking up the courage to attack me wiring,
I am....... definatly.........mabey.......probley...........oh bollox.........

cheers

:D :D

Hillhound,

I'm glad it all worked ok. What ceases to amaze me is that I can post things to Ireland and they arrive in a day or so yet I post to antwhere else and it takes forever.

Must be the Leprachorns (excuse spelling)

Rainman,

Hanging lots of lights on the wiring harness is never a good idea, the standard Automotive wiring is generally good for around 17 Amps. to find out the current drawn by a bulb just divide the power rating by the voltage i.e. 60Watts/12 = 5 Amps. It's better to control your driving lamps, that are being linked to your main beam, via a relay. You will need to run a supply wire from your main beam circuit to energise a relay (terminal 85 with a neutral (ground) run to terminal 86). A fused supply will then be taken from your battery and run, through the relay(terminals 30 & 87), to the driving lights. This will allow the Driving lights to come on with main beam.

If you want to be able to control the Fog lights independently just follow the sample install that came with the Motoswitch.

......I'll draw a diagram and post it, it sounds much worse than it is.

Mr Farmer indeed, I feel like I'm about to be arrested...

Retail Hella kits come with a relay (and other stuff you'd need to fit them to a car). When I fitted FF75s and Micro DEs, I chatted to the guy selling the lights and explained that I needed two different relays. He then changed one of them to the other type (I used Gazza/Mike O's diagram). Works perfectly - Micro DE's come on with dip, FF75s come on with main (and DE's go off). Only change was to put a switch in the signal wire from dip, so I can turn DE's off.

relays

Yep thats wot I want to do, wot different relay do I need can anbody advise, bought lights mail order so too car,nt swop supplied kit..........

cheers

Are we talking about the infamous five pin (two pole) changeover relay that deals with the switching between your fogs and driving lights on dip/main beam. If so you can get them from Maplins. Them and a knowledgeable motor factors but not Halfords.

Generally if you tell them what you are wanting to achieve they'll know which one you need. Just make sure its the automtove one they sell you. First time (Maplin's Forest Hill) they gave me a solderable one for circuit boards, twats.

The part numbers on the MikeO/Gazza diagram mean nothing to Maplins

Thanks

Done a bit off surfing since posting and think I,ve sussed it now, (famous last words) thanks for input...:D :D

Any parts you require are available from Vehicle Wiring Products. They do an excelent caltalogue or you can take a look (and order) on-line at www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk.
The 5-blade relay costs less than £4 and of course they do all the other things you require, cable, connectors, sleeving, waterproof switch, warning-light etc etc.
