Can someone tell me where the second aux power socket is wired into the loom and what type of connector? I'm wondering whether I can wire my GPS in at this point. Thanks

The aux power socket normally fits onto the front 'beak' panel & the power for it is taken from the OE power socket under the left side of the seat.

It utilises a 'piggy-back' type connector onto the back of the OE socket and is switched via the ignition.

However, there is a dedicated GPS power connection under the front of the tank which uses a connector which matches the plug on the end of BMW's NavII power cable.

Cheers

If you get the BMW kit, the second power wsocket is connected to the back of the original one, via a splitter cable that comes in the kit.

However, the 1200 has a dedicated GPS power socket. It's located under the front of the tank, on the left hand side. I believe the BMW Navigator power lead plugs directly into this socket, but I couldn't obtain a seperate plug to make my own lead.

So you could just snip the socket off and wire directly to the loom, or you could do what I did and push tinned wires into the socket, then secure them in place with tape and cable ties :)
