Just back from a ride after fitting Avon Distanzias to my R100GSPD. Ride encompassed high speed bends. rough sealed road and a long series of 30-40kmh signposted mountain corners.

I thought the Pirellis were good road tyres without any bad habits and could ride them right around to the edge of the tyre. But they wear quickly 4-5000km from a rear and not much better from a front.

I'm now a convert to the Distanzias they felt smoother and more planted, fine and under heavy braking, no bad characteristics and felt like they wanted to go harder than I did :eek Some of the difference felt will be new tyres vs old though.

The only unknown is the wear factor although info here suggests they'll go OK. I'm running 32 psi front and 36 rear. The Distanzias are also significantly cheaper than most of the alternatives. :thumb

Avon Distanzias

Mine have done 4,500 miles with no significant signs of wear, and I find them very good..............although I am comparing them with TKC 80's that were on it when I bought it!

Conti Trail Attacks on the 1200, they compare well with them in my limited experience.

cheers,

Just be careful the first few times in the wet they are a different tyre then BUT your higher temp may make a difference there

After 10 years of drought we are getting some rain 5 days out of every 7 at the moment and it's summer  So your advice is timely and welcomed.

I have a friend in the San Francisco Bay Area who will only use Distanzias, both on his R1200GS and on the road wheels for his KTM. I think the clue is in the fact that the tread wraps around the side of the tyre a bit more than the average "dual-sport" tyre. Following him in the NorCal mountains, I found myself riding off the edge of a rear Tourance.
