Avon Trailrider review

Also what's an acceptable level of tread depth on a tyre before it has to be changed.

Depends who you ask. MOT man wants to see a minimum of 1mm over 75% (I think) of the tread area.

3.
(i) the tread pattern is not clearly visible over the whole tread area. (see information column)
(ii) The depth of 1 mm throughout a continuous circumferential band measuring at least three quarters of the breadth of the tread. (see information column).

I'm 3mm on front and 6mm in rear on tourance next so still have a bit left

My rule of thumb for rear tyre wear is about 1mm/1000 miles. Fronts - the RH side usually is where it goes first - not in the middle. I'd be expecting another 4K miles from that rear before I changed it.

3mm Is at middle on front a bit more on the outsides maybe 4mm. I commute all year round so squaring off a bit in centre

Right, I got a couple of hundred miles on these today. Absolutely brilliant tyres. The wet grip on these was fantastic; I can honestly say that I was riding as if the roads were dry, and the bike was rock solid. No drone either.:thumb

I new you would like them. I know this sounds bonkers but it's honestly like the road isn't wet even though you know it is.

Exactly. Very impressed. I'm going to see if these are an option on my new bike, and get them fitted before I take delivery.

Have they got them in a speed rating high enough for the Katoom?

Has any body got comparison between the trailriders and tourance next?. I'm not too worried about wear just want the grippiest tyres

Neilo, have you seen the way my bike gets smaller in your view when it's raining on Sunday mornings.
It's the Avon Trailrider I have on my yoke.

Might get them next tyre change. How much are they?

Check out Oponeo.ie

Should be around €220 + fitting.

Bikeworld will fit other people's tyres and charge their labour rate.

Should be about €50

I have a 2015 I just bought with only 1800 miles. The howling sound drives me nuts and it seems to be attributed to the Anakee 3's. Anyone have experience or an opinion about changing just the front tire to a Trailrider to alleviate the noise problem? Since mileage is usually 2/1 front to rear, I figure the new Trailrider would only be half used when it came time to replace the rear Anakee with another Trailrider.

I now have about 1000kms on a set of trailriders. Plenty of dirt roads, fording rivers , and road riding. Extremely happy with them. I reckon a great 80/20 tyre if ya know what I mean.

The southern end of the Nevis road near Queenstown New Zealand. About 25 river crossing after that. A great ride

Are the people who fitted them still happy a few just changed to them
You must have done a few miles on these tyres now .
What are your thoughts? please

Initial thoughts when riding out of Buckley tyres was they don't feel as planted as the new type Tourance I had replaced, A quick Bimble around North Wales soon had them scrubbed in and the dry grip is excellent,
The next week end was also a dry one around mid Wales and the Breacon beacons really good grip,
The first time out in the rain on them was a little camping trip in Scotland, with the bike loaded up and the wind and rain doing what it does best north of the border, I was impressed with there outright grip I would say there better than the PR4
Long life is the problem I would say if theres a downside my back tyre is down to about 3 mm in around 2K after this week end I will be after a new set of tyres, And it might be with the same

Thats just my opinion hope it helps :thumb2
