Backfire

While on the way home last night
the bike was fairly warm i must add
there is a remus titanium grand prix fitted
to an 01reg/99 1100gs
she back fired to the extent i ducked and
you know that horrible feel you get when you hear something and you expect the engine to fall out or oil to start pissing everywhere but nothing happened
now ive ridden in to work today and am wondering couldsomething have blown or is there something i could check
she ran fine on the way in .
PS. before anybody tells me this was normal
ive heard her back fire again and again
but this was very very loud you know BANG!!!!
and you say shit whats broken.

Remus!

I used to get a severe backfire on my old GS which was fitted with a remus ypiece with the standard can! I then solved the problem by using a Remus end can!

When I say severe, i don't just mean poping and banging, these were loud cannon fire, the sort that make passerbys throw themselves on the floor!

Have you got the y piece r are you just running the end can or vis versa!

ive got both the y piece and the end can
now mind does the same people ducking etc
but this was just that bit different that it worried me
you know the oh s**t what was that

Had the same as you, the normal backfire, then one day the mother of all backfires.

On closer inspection i noticed the joint between the 'y' piece and the end can was not sealed properly and letting air in on the overrun.

Took it off sealed it and now its back to normal....still backfires but not that loud it loosens the Bowels

Might be worth checking.

I had a Techlusion box fitted which helped but drops your fuel consumption!

Wouldn't have one again!

Same here - get slight pops on the overrun with a Y+remus can, but nothing like the cannon bangs of the Y+standard can combination (someone has explained exactly why on another thread - something to do with the greater restriction imposed by the standard can). Does sound (geddit!) like an air leak to me. (BTW did you mean 1150 in your original post?)

ive checked the y piece and it must have
got loosened up this weekend
black around the joints is a bit of a telltale sigin i guess
i took her off road through the woods and got stuck in trees
after bashing over /through a few and i guess the knocks loosened it up .well i guess its time i invested in
an endro and stopped trying to wreck the gs
