A friend of mine is worried about the amount of backlash at the rear when the bike is on its centre stand, he said it seemed a lot. How much should there be? It goes OK, no problems that he's aware of.
Does he mean the lash in the drive-train and not lateral play in the final-drive?
There will always be fore and aft lash, it's the nature of gears and shaft-drive and it will always increase with wear. I think that excessive lash will be apparent when the bike is in use, gear changes will expose this but smooth clutch and matched revs may mask it (and not make it an urgent problem).
On my recently overhauled and therefore perfect R1100RT f/d, shaft, gearbox and clutch, there is 2" rotational movement (Backlash) at the rear wheel measured at the centre of the rear tyre, in 1st gear.
