Hello, I’ve been a reader of your forum for a long time.
I’m from Spain and my written English is quite poor (I’m sorry).
I tell you about my probem.
BAD QUALITY in BMW hp
Bad quality of suspension front fork made by MARZOCHI
in a motorbike advertised as exclusive and of high quality.

After 3 months of having it,
I discovered a premature erosion on the “Nicasil” cover
of suspension front fork.

BMW’s answer has been:
- it’s only an esthetic matter
- they will change gaskets in case oil goes through
- nobody has complained before

I suggest:
You lift your motorbike
and in case you see a premature erosion of the forks,
you complain to BMW
(to see if we all together can force them to change these forks
and contribute they do not produce botched jobs like this in the future).

I have no answer to this 2 questions:
1st- Who is going to compensate us for this premature erosion when we decide to sell it (if the possible new owner thinks the motorbike is ruined due to unproper use)?
2nd- Who is going to take charge of the expenses when guarantee period is over?

'They all do that sir'.

Prat....go back to your dealer...in the UK, corrosion like this is covered under warranty ;)

Good luck and welcome aboard :thumb

Prat,
as Fanum says, there are plenty of HP2 owners with replacement forks (myself having new bushes in right fork, two new fork lowers, new seals, and just recently a whole new left fork). It's a known problem, BMW should replace free of charge.

A lot of the super sport 1000 and some of the 600 c.c. bikes that have this coating suffer from this as well. My HP2, @ 8,000 km, has not had this problem.

Prat

Its Monday Morning, I am reading this thread and thinking you english HP guys are so rude to the poor spanish languagely challenged Gentleman.
Only when I looked at the top of the thread do I realise his name is actualy Prat.
Shame.
Our HP,s are great quality, In South Africa the dealers and back up are superb at fixing issues they are even giving me a new side stand aluminium plate at the moment. I ride my bike hard every week no issues.
Thank you BMW.

Mine had the bush in the fork leg go,and when they had it back at the dealers, they put a whole new set of forks in because the coating was worn off the sliders.

I cannot see Mbw making too much of an issue over it,if they do,show them this thread and see what they say then.

Welcome to the site by the way:beerjug:

Where about in Spain are you?

site sponsors

common guys - become site sponsors so we can get in touch ! Is it too much to ask?

thank you for your answers.
You can use this link http://www.joanprat.com/moto1.htm
so that you can see the pictures.
I'm not the only one in Spain to have this problem.
To be able to see the problem you have to lift the motorbike.
I'm from Olot-(Girona) Spain

I think Prat may have been talking about erosion ie. wear, not corrosion.
Premature wear in the forks does seem to be a problem and just one of the reasons why I won't be buying one...just yet;)

Fit some WP forks, a decent battery, sort the side stand switch and a few other glitches Mr BMW and I may be tempted again:)

Having just joined I'm not sure if I should be in the bar or something??

I bought mine in Mar 06 and have just under 5k miles. So far all that I have had go wrong is the side stand switch. 5 minutes sorted that. There may be a need to replace the brake lever at this service as the rear brake light stays on all the time, but thats all. It really is a brilliant bike.

I did however put it down the road last week and I am hunting for an OE end can with no marks on it. Hopefully someone might have put after market on and kept the old unit? Let me know. CASH WAITING!!

SINCE BMW DID NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS FORKS
I MADE A COMPLAINT TO THE CONSUMER BUREAU.
RESULT:
BMW ASSUMES IN WRITING THE DEFECT MANUFACTURE AND CHANGES THE TWO FORKS.
DOUBT:
HOW LONG WILL THESE FORKS LAST FOR ( THEY LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINAL ONES ) ??
FOR THE MOMENT, THE MATTER IS CLOSED

Keep an eye on the play in the fork legs. The bush in the top of the leg is wearing out,and the play in the slider allows the nitriding coating to wear off.
