Having invested my hard earned (and lots of judge's time) on a large screen Mac, I thought I might as well get the hang of BaseCamp, not least as Garmin are making it their base operating system. I must say it's a lot better than trying to run it on a PC, which wasn't great.

A bit quirky, though I can see that some of the functions may well be quite useful. The instructional videos on YouBoob are reasonably good, too.

One thing that really does seem to work well on the Mac is Garmin Express, with its associated Garmin Mapinstall and Garmin MapManager software. It was dreadful on my PC, so bad that I gave up and reverted to the old map updater.

By the end of the winter (and several Wanders plotted out) I hope to have it all off pat.... Either that or I'll have spat my dummy and gone to sit in cave.

PS Any chance of a BaseCamp section, to rival the wonder that is the Mapsource one.

Sadly you'll soon find Garmin Express goes a bit awry and you'll be using the 'old' map updater on the Mac too.
I used it on a Zumo, nuvi and my Montana.
It's a pity it's not consistently good.

Had it for almost a year now.

It's just a matter of completely different methods of doing things and having to have the GPS plugged in to have the map detail.

Likewise getting used to its differences from Mapsource.

You don't have to have the GPS plugged in for map detail.

Some good information here: https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?179-BaseCamp where the developers post.

I started using it 18 months ago and was getting the hang of it.... Then it went a few months of not using it and ive forgot how it all works :blast
Will have a look at the link John has added...
