Read a lot of stuff down on BMW Assist and Battersea, so thought my experience's might be of interest.

After waking to sound of theiving scum attacking/hot-wiring my 1150SE back on the morning of the 26th April - I called BMW assist at 6am to get the bike picked up from home (Chiswick) with the hope it could go to Vines (where the bike orginated). Policy is that they take the bike to the nearest dealer - which would be Battersea. Figured that was fair enough... if it was my business I'd do the same. BMW assist were very prompt and helpful, bike was pre-booked for a 7.30 am pick-up at my request. Got a call from the contractor to say he was running late by 15mins. Again, fair enough... North Circular at 7am is never smooth going. Contractor was from SOS, knew his onions and looked after the bike like it was his own.

Called BMW Battersea at 8.30am as the bike rolled in to them. Explained the situation and Matt, who became my contact, said they were stacked, but could access the damage the next day and would have a report/estimate the day after that. Prompt service, they didn't know me from Adam and the bike arrived without prior knowledge.

True to his word... estimate was ready on Friday, £1256 worth - so called BMW Insurance, call picked up by Churchill - young guy on the other end, not best informed but did his best - claim put in - Accessor to visit Battersea. Week later get a call from NIG (part of the same group) requesting Battersea's details... even though guy from Churchill was given Matt's direct line (at Matt's suggestion). Took two weeks for the Accessor to turn-up, then a further week to send the confirmation for work to commence even though they'd said it'd be with Battersea the day after the visit.

Got a call from Matt on the 27th May to say the insurance paperwork was eventually with them and parts were on their way. He was concerned I'd been without the bike so long due to the insurance and although they were booked until the 19th June he'd found a space on the 9th, if he could do better he would. Got another call on June 1st, again from Matt, to say they'd had a cancelation the day before and the bike was going back together and would be ready end of play.

Bikes back - all in working order and I'm happy again. It was a long slog - but down to the insurers not the Dealer - So Battersea get's my vote. Matt did his utmost to get this sorted and in his words 'You must be desperate to get it back". Plenty informative and I feel looked after.

Credit where it's due.

Good news :thumb
but why did the insurance co take a month to sort it

Because insurance companies sub out to third parties and agencies it would seem... no central point of contact and folk not checking the facts they have already been given. It would seem.

As a note... £1256 included a knew frame and front disc as well as the electrics. Still not saying it's VFM - just the facts. Pattern Frames??? I doubt it.

Following the closure of my nearest dealer, my 1200GS is going to Battersea for its 12k service in a couple of weeks.

Booked via what seems to be a mini call centre, and also to have the front engine plate changed under warranty (hopefully). Loan bike arranged for £15 insurance.

Any recent feedback? Will it be safe in their hands?

Save hands

Nothing fallen off... and trumped a 1000 mile trip with ease a few weekends back. Germany took a while to deliver the VIN plate for the new frame all the while Matt at Battersea gave un-prompted updates.

Not BMW dealers - but Russell Motors in Falcon Rd, Clapham, are the only motor factors I truly trust to do the right thing... Good for tyres too.

I've been using Battersea for a few years now and they've massively improved I think.

They are always pretty busy but it used to be ridiculous - like they had sold huge numbers of bikes but not been quick enough to ramp up the service department to cope with obvious increase in demand. Customer service accordingly had "room for improvement" and "lessons learned" as they say.

Last time I was there for the 6,000 mile service which I book with about a weeks notice only - they were most helpful - no curtesy bike available but a lift to the station given, tea, coffee, newspapers and a couple of rather attractive receptionists in the waiting area.....

Also the guys were more than happy to spend a few minutes explaining exactly what they had done to the bike in a lot more detail than is shown on the invoice.

Top marks last time I was there, hope they keep it up :clap

Pink Way Round Pre-Check

Well, I'll be able to tell you more tomorrow...but having been away for various parts of Aug and not been as organised as some  -- I finally rang Battersea and asked if my bike (and my husbands) could be looked at and given a service before we leave for our leg of the PWR on Tuesday (Region8).

So - Ben, a VERY helpful :clap and kindly person in the Parts Dept, fell over himself to try to get space for us tomorrow (this was this morning mind) and although they could not do a full-service -- they would fit the Dakar screen I had ordered a few weeks back (at 15% discount) and they would give both bikes a once over and diagnostic check ---all for free.

You can't get better than that! I will let you know how things work out (esp since both bikes need to be good for the PWR.... )

:clap

Coming up with the goods

HI,
Service done; bikes fine; REALLY good service!! Thanks SO MUCH to Peter and Ben who both fell over themselves to help us - including giving us a free wash of the bikes! Good people!!

then went over to Park Lane...........have asked for donations for the auction as they didn't want to contribute to the PWR monatarily, although JAmes said he would donate later! :clap They have "used up their charity budget" apparently. I hope they can find something.......esp since Derm and I both bought our bikes from them; my kids bike gear and, yesterday, my boots (FINALLY......dry feet!! :) ).

we will see what they can come up with......fingers crossed!

Looked at the 1200....hard sell but managed to resist. I will dream for a bit longer. Lets wait till we move and have bigger roads to ride!!
