My battery exploded! I was charging it, and since it was probably low on acid, it explode!

:blast:blast:blast

Now I have to buy a new one. Advices?

Was it a lead acid type and did you unsrew the top-up plugs?

I was reading on the EU airhead forum about batteries...
Seems some are using these UPS batteries and a €20 who can blame them...

I had a look in the UK and found these for golf caddies etc. and at £30, also seem a good buy.

Both are the same size or a gnats smaller than the Hawker. Both 18ah. Both can be mounted in any orientation.

I can't remember who we got Jills battery from, but we bought one of the more modern slimmer sealed fiberglass mat type. It wasn't to expensive and seems to work well.

Just had a quick look on Google http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CCIQrQQwAg

Plenty of choice out there. You takes your pick... I suppose.

HAWKER ODESSY

I would buy anything else if im going to keep the bike its going on, you may have to spend £85 but thats a small price to pay for the reliability and power of an odessy. :thumb

I think you will find that unfortunately you may not be able to use these on a bike as they are leisure batteries which are designed to give a long slow discharge and not the high instantaneous cranking current required by the starter motor!

They have fewer thicker plates than a starter battery which has a higher number of thinner plates to produce the high currents required.

i have just aquired one of these http://www.thebatteryshop.co.uk/genesis-np18-12r-705-p.asp from a golf caddy trolly thing for an electric buggy i am building for my lad, and was thinking how similar it looked to the odessey (cant feckin spell it). so had a look at the specs and it will do 450A max output. which is around the same cca as a standard 25A lead acid for the airhead. so i would think it would work i wouldnot like to guarentee how long it would last but it would work some of the other batterys i have looked at scince will only do around 70A so if you shop carefully you will find one that will do. but will it last as long as a hawker/odessey or even standard lead acid ? buy cheap buy twice :rob (possibly:mmmm)
