I've had a pleasant couple of hours fruitlessly searching for an answer to this problem.

My 2001 1150GS still has the BM battery (dated at 02/02 and 50 thousand kms) pretty bloody good! but it's only a matter of time before it carks it.

I live in the bush in North QLD AU. Closest bike shop is 300kms away, roadside assist usually means a farmer in a Landcruiser.

There's a lot of space under the tank, why can't I use a car battery?
I live on a boat, and understand amperage, so why not a decent 100Ah (as long as it doesn't foul the tank)

Seems to me I only need to modify the battery bracket.

If you've no ABS you can fit a very large size battery with just a little modification to the battery holder.

Thanks mate, I'll some photo's of the completed mods. Wondered why there was so much space there?

ABS ay? must be a big spacewaster.

PS with regard to the above post, 'sealed' doesn't mean it's actually, er, sealed...it still needs to 'breathe'- it just means you don't have to add distilled water.

A poorly designed 'sealed' battery will still spill acid all over the place if you drop it on its side :)

Electrolytic action

Don't forget to get a gel one
Ooooo...battery acid on yer knackers :tears

Pah roughty toughty GS riders laugh at battery acid on the knackers
