Right, got my Beeline today, downloaded the app and it immediately suggests I buy the “Pro” app for £3.99 a month.
Seems a bit of a scam, not even Garmin charge for their apps.

a) is this right?
b) if it is, what do you get for £3.99 a month?

You don't need the subscription to use the app. If you want bluetooth connection and spoken directions, then you do. Not sure what else comes for £3.99 a month

Thanks chaps. It may do something like curvy roads as well, but all those algorithms are shite so I wouldn’t use them anyway.

I do like the route creation. MRA could learn a thing or two

Think it is the other way around, the Beeline app is pretty rubbish, plenty of unhappy customers on their facebook page. Units do not seem that robust and Beeline are on radio silence. I've binned it and gone back to my XT

All it needs to do for me is be small, import a route made somewhere else, and take me from A-B.

It’s not a full fat gps, but it fits nicely on my T120, so it’s not instead of anything for me. I still use the XT on my 1290R, and Montana on my HP2E, 690 and WR.

So unless it actually breaks (😳) it’ll be fine.

Yes you can import a track, not a route, no matter which app you use to make the gpx, no waypoints are imported into the beeline app. I asked them why they show imported routes with waypoints etc, as you can't add waypoints in the app to an imported track. In the end they closed my ticket and stopped replying. Depends what you want, in the end I bought another Garmin power lead and bracket and was able to mount my XT on my R100.

I haven’t got that far into it yet, but this will never be used for going far or doing any complicated multi-leg or multi day routes.

Is there a problem with following a track, as opposed to a route? At least it won’t be recalculated.

It is for what I wanted. I have been using my XT for doing treasure hunts, where you go to a specific POI and I like to be able to calculate time to each POI. But with beeline and a track, you don't know where the POIs are or if you have missed one. I know that is a specific need, if just out for a ride it wouldn't matter as long as I could follow a track. It just upset me that they give the impression you can import a track with waypoints, but you can't. I was in conversation with them and sent them gpx from MRA, Calimoto and Google, none of which imported the waypoints. Then they closed my ticket and wouldn't communicate anymore. I guess they are only a small company and for point to point or following a track it works fine. Also there have been quite a lot of posts on facebook about excessive battery drain on the phone and the unit not having the reported battery life, so you need the powered mount. Not an issue if you charge your phone (unlike the MRA battery drain) and use the powered mount or you are not doing long rides.

I see your point, it’s rather that expectation have been mis-set. I’ve only done a couple of short 10 miles trips yet to test, so will report back when I do something more - however I doubt I’ll do more than 150 miles in a day on the t120

Think it will be fine. I was up for buying a Moto 2 as I couldn't find a suitable place to mount my XT on the R100, but then I managed to get a mount to fit through the bar crash pad and ran the power from my power distribution box I had previously fitted. So now I can use my XT on the bike, so no need for anything else.

£3.99/month gives you spoken directions, and ‘round route’ generation in the app. Neither are important.
The planning app is simple - plonk a bunch of waypoints, and move them about as necessary. What’s not to like?
Turn the brightness to the middle setting, and the Beeline uses approx 10%/hour battery life. You don’t need the powered mount.
Phone battery drain is negligible.
I have an XT on my KTM. Beeline on a retro.

I researched the Moto 2 and joined the facebook page. There are plenty of people complaining about battery drain and the battery life of the unit. Like everything not everyone's experiences are the same. Have you completed 8 hour day riding with the device or just the odd hour bimble. Also battery life of the phone will depend on the route and how much interaction there is between the phone app and the device.

I’ve got one
I’ve toured with it
But, hey, you stick with Facebook facts

I will, but thanks for your advice. If you bothered to read my other replies on this, it doesn't do what I wanted it to do and the support was shite and that isn't a facebook fact. But saying all that, if I couldn't have mounted my XT which I already use on another bike, I would have bought one and had a go.

The moto 2 is still new, so I'm sure they will sort out any issues.

Apologies as I don't want to hijack the thread (Wapping, split this if you think it's worth) but does the Beeline get the direction only from its app? Can it receive instructions from other mapping systems, like Google or Waze?

I always really liked the design concept behind the beeline since its inception, but never really considered it. But now with the basic mapping instructions on the screen I was thinking it might be a good alternative to using a fully fledged GPS when navigating within London or on short range, where also using Waze or Google Maps gives better outcomes than Garmin's algorithms for A to B navigation (and stick to Garmin for travel and more complex plotted routes).

Thanks.

As far as I’m aware, only from the Beeline app. The app pairs with the Beeline device

Thanks Berin.
I did some more digging online today and seems the Beeline app uses Google Maps for the plotting/routing. This is good.
Might splurge some money into a Beeline 2 too then :D
