Been and gone!

Steve. Cut your losses pal!

Lets consider this. Kawasaki launch the ZZR1400 pocket rocket. Problems with it either here or in America? Z-E-R-O. Would I trust it to take me to 185 MPH? Damn right I would. Would I trust a 12GS to take me to the Dover ferry? I'd rather place a bet on the second coming of Jesus Christ.

BMW cannot build bikes. wakey wakey.

Yeah we know what you think! :sleep :sleep :sleep

Can we all agree that from now on "Sell it now" is the first (but probably not the only) suggestion to anyone posting a thread regarding a fault with their 1200, so perhaps no more need to mention it as the first response by some to every thread, or so it seems.

With genuine apologies to those very badly let down by BMW who quite rightly feel the need to share this.

If someone has had the same fault, but repaired under warranty then this is very useful information to share, but it can get lost in the deluge of "they are all crap, every one of them, so sell it now" responses and counter responses.

We want our 1200GS/A which is why we are here.

Quite agree! :thumb
And bying the first to own a new type of jap bike has caused me problems in the past also.
Honda XR400R:- Soft rocker/tappet screws.
Suzuki DRZ400:- Split rad hoses, plus 5 week wait for spares to arrive from Japan. Then gearbox output shaft seal failure leading to total oil loss.
So, Japanese machines are far from perfection. And, Honda and Suzuki had no way the customer support.

Anyway, I had my 12GSA delivered back to me last evening repaired.
Rode it to work this morning at 0500, total bliss!! :clap
It's staying...............
Cheers.
Timpo.

Pointless post no.67. I for one am very bored with your repetitive chip on the shoulder. If you've got rid of your bike, why not do all of us a favour and bugger off somewhere else with your pointless spite?

Hey Steve Minkeyhead

Have you taken all this up with BMW themselves (ie not the dealership?)

My own experience is that once somebody a bit further up the foodchain realises that there is a "fridaybeerfestday" bike out there they WILL sort it out.
Catalogue all the faults, catalogue all your contacts (good and bad) with the dealer and send off a load of letters. Keep your cool, act all professional and business like. Post them here too, BMW read too......
12GS no1 fell to bits, repeatedly, and I had no confidence in it at all to get me anywhere. I was frequently stranded.
Some interesting conversations with BMW and.........12GS no2 is the dogs danglies, as I've said.

I would be very surprised if he actually owned a 1200GS in the first place!

From F650->GS1200->HP2 over three years and Z-E-R-O defects. Think of the brownie points the dealer owes you.

I got my R1200GS after the previous owner demanded a full refund after the rear shocker failed with less than 3000 miles on it...

Ok, so the servo pump failed whilst I was riding it... but I dropped it into the nearest dealership at the time, and they went to work to try and figure out what was wrong, and then offered me an R850R to get home on (I don't like borrowing other peoples bikes, so got me Dad to collect me).

I do know of one bloke who was out in Europe when his BM tourer let him down... BMW services actually took his bike off him and then 'flew' him home

Minky

Take a look at the Honda CBF 1000, it rides beautifully, loads of low down torque just like the GS but better, handles a dream.
