Dear all,

I am leading a European trip in June and one of the riders has a problem with his bike. I am sensible and ride GS, however he rides an R1100RT. Basically I am wondering if anybody has heard of this fault before. He rides his bike for about 5 miles and it cuts out dead (No coughing or spluttering) It then will not restart easily without being pushed etc. He has taken it to his mechanic friend who has apparently gone through the fuel system and cannot find any fault.

I know it's cheeky, but any ideas.

Shredder:)

A few possibilities.

The Hall sensor,

Battery connections loose.

faulty kill switch

faulty ignition wire loom.

After you bump start it will it run fine again? If so for how long? Has it been serviced lately?

1 and 4 are my guesses, with 4 being the most likely:thumb

Thanks to Bela and Shready

In answer to bellas question, it runs about the same distance and dies again apparently. I will let him know your ideas, and update you with progress.

Thanks for now

Fuel tank breather blocked?

:nenau
Get him to ride until it stops, then open the filler cap, but listen carefully, you will hear if there is a vacuum in the tank, then try to restart with the cap still open.

if it's a faulty ignition loom then you lose all power to the dash idiot lights...does it cut out with the dash still live?
