Why oh why did I trade my hex head for a 1250. Currently sat at my local Sainsburys petrol forecourt with a bike that yet again won’t restart, awaiting BMW assist to message me with a time to attend. I’ve only ridden the bloody thing twelve miles home, I wish I hadn’t stopped to get petrol. Got a euro trip planned next month, I have zero faith in this turd.

Oh dear! At least we won’t be far away from the tunnel this year!

🤔Have you checked the kill switch🤐
Hope you get sorted soon.

Silly question, how old is it..12miles old or used ? hopefully just a duff battery and you can get a new one FOC.
Hardly a pile of shit unless it's a major failure.

Lovely colourway though, even though it won't go  :blast

I saw a lovely 40th bumblebee 1250 GSA for sale and whilst a tempting purchase (trade 2 for 1 bike), I just think there's nowt wrong with the older stuff

Nice looking bike though. Sure it’s just a first date glitch. You’ll get it sorted and enjoy

PS. Heat gun the reflectors off the front forks and this should fix!

Sounds like dodgy battery. If volts drop below 12 - love nor money won’t turn it over

Had the bike almost two years, bought approved used from Bahnstormer.

Just been jump started by the man from BMW with the biggest NoCo booster pack I’ve ever seen.

My battery was down to about 11.2v and gutless, yet my drop tester said it was good for 212 Amps last week and also it was optimated yesterday due to the tracker drain which I’m aware of.

Just got home and it starts again fine now but a diagnostic cranking test shows the battery in amber warning at 8.26v and 426ms during starting, so time for a new battery.

The BMW Assist guy reckons these bikes take about 35% out of the battery on first start which takes more than 12 miles to put back in, so when the batteries start getting old the recharge time/distance means they are no good for short trips as the buggers won’t restart.

I had used a Motobatt when I first got the bike but that died, as has this genuine OE BMW battery.

I will lose more in time/money by taking it to Bahnstormer than it will cost me just to buy a new battery from Tayna and fit it myself, so that’s the plan, plus I will fit my top box and carry my NoCo GB40 booster with me from now on.

Thanks very much for the generous offer you are very kind, but if all else fails I can use my Tmax scooter although it’s only good for about 120 miles between fill ups.

I’ll order and fit a new starter battery and carry my booster pack, should keep me going on the trip.

I've got a Motobatt AGM & a Noco Lithium in the shed if you need one in a hurry

The Motobatt was fitted to the GS last May / June if i recall and then swapped for the Noco in August, and then swapped for a new Motobatt when the weather got cold :D:D

Come come now @Pukmeister we have the fastest coloured best looking barge and like my escapade on 1st March, it’s just a battery…..
Just a ‘kin expensive one and fear of it failing again is awful.
You’ll be reet,

Hopefully it's just a teething issue and you'll come to love and trust the bike. I know what you mean about the hex heads...they were less sophisticated but had far fewer issues largely because of that. Decent build quality and reliability, as were earlier air heads. Never once worried about reliability on my R100RT or R65...they just went on and on and were easy to work on and fettle every now and again. I carried a few spares on tours with the RT as main gripe with it, was it ate through front wheelbearings at the rate of one every year or two and for some reason munched spark plugs every 4 to 5K miles. I racked up about 44K miles on that bike with very few issues otherwise. No consolation I know, but My 1200GSA and RS have both been very reliable. They have their issues like most bikes these days and the odd Friday bike does get through (a mate got shot of his last LC because it was constantly having issues but he's now got a 1200RS and is delighted with it).
