Had the bike almost two years, bought approved used from Bahnstormer.
Just been jump started by the man from BMW with the biggest NoCo booster pack I’ve ever seen.
My battery was down to about 11.2v and gutless, yet my drop tester said it was good for 212 Amps last week and also it was optimated yesterday due to the tracker drain which I’m aware of.
Just got home and it starts again fine now but a diagnostic cranking test shows the battery in amber warning at 8.26v and 426ms during starting, so time for a new battery.
The BMW Assist guy reckons these bikes take about 35% out of the battery on first start which takes more than 12 miles to put back in, so when the batteries start getting old the recharge time/distance means they are no good for short trips as the buggers won’t restart.
I had used a Motobatt when I first got the bike but that died, as has this genuine OE BMW battery.
I will lose more in time/money by taking it to Bahnstormer than it will cost me just to buy a new battery from Tayna and fit it myself, so that’s the plan, plus I will fit my top box and carry my NoCo GB40 booster with me from now on.
