hi all

bit of advice/feed back appreciated here.

when i recently (october 07) ordered my new r1200gs i was surprised that once they drew up the invoice it had a delivery charge of £493.75

now by this time i really wanted the bike! i did query it but was told this was normal. this being only my second bike i didnt have anything to go by.

it's always been on my mind, and now that i have found this forum and a body of bmw owners to ask, i'd love to hear your thoughts

cheers

Graeme

And it's been eating away at you for this long?

I think if the price displayed on the bike was the "on the road" price then that should include all those little extras they try to hide.

Might be worth checking if they've just broken down the 'on the road' price into its components - for example my invoice didn't show delivery but it did split the OTR cost into the bike, first reg fee and road tax.

I work in the automotive industry and it is completely usual (notice I did not say moral!:augie) to have a delivery charge on any new vehicle or bike.

Essentially you, as the customer, are paying a contribution for transportation of the vehicle from wherever it has come from, plus time for the retailer to prep the bike (PDI or pre-delivery inspection), and to register it, plus a first registration tax that goes into the governments coffers....oh, and of course they add VAT to this.....

If you choose to purchase a new bike or car be prepared - it will always (at least in my experience) include a "delivery charge"....:eek

There is a simple answer if you don't want to pay it - buy a nearly new one! :green gri
