Am sure a bus or HGV will help impale you with that frame

Neither did that to my late, great friend Dave. It was an old bastard in a Jaguar that got him, a bit more than 10 years after this was taken.

I sort of get this..........if you ain't got a car, but the transition from sweaty cycle gear back to M/C clothing won't be pleasant. I know it looks ungainly but decent road bikes weigh next to nothing so I doubt it'll upset the handling. Custom built? or off the shelf?

Yeah.

But - this is better if you want to relax when you get there :D

I get it although an mtb would be my choice but then Schtum's words of wisdom sadly ring true.
Weight wise that bike should be 8kg +- depending on the kit on it and wheels so you won't even know it's there.

Jallani, I to have a 2x2 cycle rack for my GS LC. Do you need to remove the rear passenger rails to make it fit? Will post a pic once it's fitted.

You must be a foreigner ( Romanian ?:D ) hygiene and British don't go hand in hand :augie. But a great idea if you go on holiday ( alone) and use the bike as secondary transport , can you still use the panniers ?

Sadly, you will... it's not just about how much added weight is over the rear end, it's about how far away from the bike's centre of mass that weight is positioned.
The further away the weight is from the centre of mass, the more pronounced the pendulum effect is going to be during sudden changes of direction.

Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inertia_coupling. It doesn't just affect aircraft - it's common to all high-speed vehicles which have uneven mass distribution.

If you type "bikes on bikes 2.0" into YouTube, there's a video of some guys taking their mountain bikes up mountains on the backs of their motorbikes.

Package it like Schtum's mate Dave and it would go crossways across the bike and wouldn't be much wider, than the GS + mirrors(widest part). Better weight distribution/ stability. Just a thought

Hi amesbub, it fits straight down using the existing holes so no need to make any modifications. I had to remove the rear luggage rack as didn't fit but otherwise took a couple minutes. You can mount on the rear luggage rack but is better over the pillion seat as closer to centre of bike. I can still use my touratech panniers without any issue and even have room to slide through a roll-bag. I barely notice the weight as road bicycle is very light. Note: I did have to wire in the additional tail/brake light as well as the bicycle obscures the original tail lamp. I checked with my insurance company and police and it's all considered legal (towing rules apply).

There isn't much point in using this setup to go locally but I plan to ride some of the 'Tour de France' mountain climbs so will motorcycle down and then have some fun on the bicycle while there (2 holiday's in one!). Also, allows me to filter and beat the traffic if I want to do some cycling sportives further away.

Interesting Jallani - just been looking at these racks with a view to doing exactly what you were planning.

Presume by now you have done a ride or two and would be grateful for comments on your experience with it>

Have you had any legal issues/challenges in the UK or Europe?

Any practical issues with the rack or useful tips?
Did the additional tail/brake light come with the rack?

Many thanks in advance
Terry

Was his moniker on the VFR forum " Green VFR" ?
I remember that, very sad.
