Bike test

I'm looking forward to hearing your views:thumb

Why? We all know JB will love it and end up buying one.......

He's been desperate to move into the 21st century but having talked himself into a corner re how shite the 1200 is he now has the perfect opportunity to do just that AND save face at the same time :D

I'll believe it when I see it:D

How did they react?

They were ok about it and I got my deposit back no problem. I have been to two dealers over the weekend and neither seemed that clued up about the Tank Slapping issue. Or, they are hoping it will just melt away, as I suspect it might. Went for a blast on my current bike yesterday, and wondered why I was thinking of ditching it. But will see how things pan out over the coming months, and if the LC proves to be bullet proof re stability (the jury's out despite what the diehards think) will probably have one. I am developing arthritis in my mits so suspect my riding days may be over in a couple of years. I therefore, want to sample the latest beforehand. I am still amazed that BMW can spend 5 years developing the bike only to have a quite high profile magazine and others, slate it for something as basic as stability!

I asked the same question in Allan Jefferies yesterday and got a somewhat guarded response leaning toward people riding bikes off road and nothing wrong with the bike... time will tell on that one I guess

How right you are :bow :clap

exactly ......... its a proven suspension system with millions of miles use with no probs.
The only new dynamic added to this bike on some models is the semi active system . A minute miscalculation would be like having no suspension for milliseconds but enough to disrupt the steering

well, Im awake at 03.50 with daughter concerns, so decided to distract my brain and burn some candlelight with photoshop.
I merged a 2009GS with the LC 2013 keeping the reported 59.3 inch wheelbases as the same:

For sure, the fork angles are the same, but you can see other changes.

We've all enjoyed paranoia about EWS FPC and FD failures, but I reckon this slapper issue, will do wonders for a good night's sleep :D

Nice comparison - the new one is still very obviously a GS, try the same with the old grandad 1150 lardy tractor thingy ;)

No need....................we already know it's a proper GS:D

No doubt my mate will be telling me the same thing when he sees my new Super 2013 GS - "why do you need 125bhp and more torque? my bike is made from proper metal and not plastic, and why hasn't it got a proper toolkit etc blah, blah, blah.......... my 85bhp lardy tractor is a proper GS blah, blah, blah....." :D

Solution.

DONT TRAVEL IN THE 70s. Easy!!!. And yes iv still bought one. Am I stupid?? POSSIBLY. I did contact Bike magazine and they told me they would ring me back and Hey guess what. Yep im still waiting. As far as anyone knows there were 3 complaints to BMW at the South African test. And an unexplained Fatal crash involving Kevin Ash. Now some might say. And they already have. Would BMW let a possibly dodgy bike out on the market. (ANSWER) If they are convinced theres not a problem and that its there top bread earner and they had invested 5 years and millions of pounds to get it on the market???? Think about it. But hey shit its that good that I swopped my last years G.S. Ralley Edition. with a strong verbal condition with my North Oxford Dealer, that the very first hint of a Slapper. I would return and Shove the thing up his rear end. That's if it don't spit me off and I survive. Short Record of companies being Safety Proactive. Honda. Pan Euro. About 8 Coppers Killed. Two undead reported Massive Wobble. Honda reply. Bikes carrying to much weight. Police told them to shove Model much to late. Toyota Prius. Many balls of fire. Carpets moving and Jamming Throttles. And on and on and on. And it would not be the first time BMW had a problem. Remember the launch of the K1200. The Demos arrived at the Dealers and within a few days, All bikes withdrawn.Lets hope it is a 3 Off problem and non of us get hurt. In the mean time im about to go out on mine. Yep my rabbits foots firmly fixed on the rear end.:blast
