Bike to Bike Bluetooth - Sena

Just been out for a ride today (see my route to Blades Cafe Northleach) and seen the new SENA SMH10 Motorcycle Bluetooth Stereo Headset that a guy had, thought they were really expensive until he told me what he'd paid on a deal. Got home and, after forgetting what he'd said, found that www.sportsrider.co.uk have a promotion on at £149 for the single and £289 for the dual pack - Cheapest apparently in the UK, worth a look and I'm certainly up for a couple at that price".

Excellent easy to use kit ,very good for bike to bike and best of all no wiring. Sound pretty good also....

Just an update, I see that they have now sold all of their single packs but are offering 2 x singles for the same price as the double for a limited time.

Might be worth grouping together and buying 2 x singles rather than splitting up boxes!

Personaly I don't know because it hasn't arrived, but there are other threads worth having a look at.

My old Cardo Scala Q2 was pretty good sometimes over 1/4 mile and better abroad than at home for some weird reason !!

I still think radios are better for longer range and larger groups though and after my old Midlands fell apart will be looking for some better kit when I have a few more pennies!

Switch off any "speed warnings" from Tom Tom as they cut the talking bike to bike connection.

Left contact open bike to bike and got an easy 8 hours a day out of the batteries.

Charged Sena from cigareete lighter when needed, ie putting up tenet or easy riding with no complications.

Agreed , though reliable max range we found to be 600-1000m though do rember that Bluetooth is very much a line of sisht transmission so buildings ,bends with hills and sometimes HGVs will have an effect.. You will not be dissapointed with this bit of kit. If you have a flip front helmet or Shark Evoline you will nead the boom extension microphone accesory kit.. We found little or no wind noise even with the helmets used open face (R1200 GS's with Givi screens) upto legal speeds.

Have you eve just wanted something NOW, you lot are making me desperate to get my hands on them and go for a ride - I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Anyway, to clarify my previous rantings which didn't make sense reading back;

www.sportsrider.co.uk have stock of the single headset packs at £149 and whilst they have no stock of the dual packs will supply two singles for £289, the same price they were offering out the dual packs, both have Royal Mail Special Next Day delivery included so a stonking deal.

I have manged to email them and have been told that they have come under strong pressure to raise prices toward the suggested retail ones of by SENA's UK arm and will only be able to to run the offer until the end of August now and not September.

Being Mr Suspicous I've had a look around the Web and Ebay and there seems to have been a price hike by all dealers overnight, cheapest price £169 for the single and £319 for the double deal elsewhere via www.championmotouk.com or Glasgow Bike Centre on Ebay.

We amended our order to two singles so as not to miss out and will hopefully see Postie with them in the morning - Whoops accidentally ordered a Radio & Headset so hope the wife doesn't get to the door before me!

Both Bluetooth headsets arrived this morning from www.sportsrider.co.uk together with the Radio, got a capture from the wife but she was happy I'd ordered two of everything - I think!!

Paired the headsets to the Zumo 660, iPhone and each other and hey presto lovely and clear from one end of the garden to the other, too wet for a rideout and they need a couple of hours charging which gives me time to play with other goodies.

Radios look superb build certainly not cheap like some I've seen, worked straight out of the box and the throat microphone is so simple and effective, helmet speakers and microphone took about 15 minutes to fit neatly in our Scheuberth.

Will report back when we get out and test both.

SENA

Works a treat, difficult to say exact distance but a good part of a kilometer or more and not necessarily line of sight.


RADIOS

Brilliant, it's a good couple of miles to the Post Office from where we live and these work a treat to request the wife to pick up a chocolate bar! - These are going to be useful when we go camping as there's not Vodafone coverage where we go.

Oh yes, the radios are tough, dropped one already with no ill effects.

So you're using a Senna BT headset, one of their Wouxun radios and the BT adpater for the radio at the bottom of this page to connect them together Or are you using the radio independently of the Senna?

Whoops, just re-read you posts above and see you ordered a throat mic, does the Senna have an audio in for the radio?

Personally mine arrived next day and I had to do nothing, reading the manual you need a programming lead and software from the manufacturers site - Not worth the bother and I've had to pay VAT on Ebay stuff before - China's a long way for warranty repairs !!!!!

Whoops, just re-read you posts above and see you ordered a throat mic, does the Senna have an audio in for the radio?

The throat mic has a clear eartube which is nice because when you put your helmet on you can use both the SENA and the radio independently, very comfortable and the voice quality over the radios is incredible.

Had a look at the Bluettoth thing and after some really good advice from Sportsrider decided not to spend the extra money, apparently the bluetooth connection from the radio will hold open one channel therefore not allow anything else to cut in.

They did advise that SENA will have a new product soon which acts as a HUB and will sort this out but this is a common problem with 2 Way Radios and bluetooth - WWW.SENABLUETOOTH.COM and look at the SR10 thing.

Be aware that the stock at sportsrider.co.uk is old stock and is not the firmware upgradable version that they are advertising.

The firmware upgradable version has a usb socket on the unit not a standard power type socket.

Even for the new stock a new firmware is already available so the units being supplied by sportsrider are well out of date.

If you look on the Web you'll see that the USB versions are only available in the USA and not official stock with warranty in the UK, there was a guy selling them on Ebay 'Radio Rider' so make you're own minds up and beware a lot of money and a long way to go USA if you get problems (think I said that about imported radios from ebay mmmmm de ja vue!)

I see from your other threads you have these already so you must have done your research and know this, did you buy some more then?

Your reports were partly responsible for me purchasing in the first place as you said how good they were, ours are superb and I have no problems recommending them from my experience anyway or where we got them from, got great service and saved £££'s

My bad, and to be fair to Sportsrider.co.uk they have just said they will refund me if I want. They say they are also going to change the add to make it clear these are not the user upgradeable ones.

I have been looking for a deal on an additional headset for a bit so we can talk to niece when she goes pillion.

My mistake was seeing "firmware upgradeable", I knew Sena had a new user upgradeable one on their site that had been out a couple of months and put 2 & 2 together and got 5

Main reason I wanted upgraded firmware was my new Android phone has a very poor BT implementation and I hoped maybe Sena would have some tweaks to get round the Android problems in later upgrades.

Still a good price, and will do what I need. Bought two so have a spare, which is actually good as we would hate to be without them now.
