For my 1984 XL500R
Imported from France in March, very good condition. The bike has been subject to a rebuild, completed by the seller’s best friend (seller owned a 250 model). Owner had passed away leaving the bike to his friend. He sold it because he couldn’t start it..
I have completed the necessary import processes and paid all duties due. NOVA receipt and number in my possession. What is required is registering with the DVLA for an age appropriate plate (which I can do - just haven’t got around to it).
The bike is running and rides well, however the front brake is awful. I’m guessing it can be improved by someone with more knowledge / ability than myself.
She was bought for local pottering and country lanes, having lusted after one when a schoolboy. Now owning one, I find starting it is a bugger. I’ve started it several times in my ownership upon which she ticks over beautifully - problem is I can’t do it easily or on command. She seems to respond better to a ‘sweep’ of the kick starter rather than a short sharp kick. A combination of idiocy and little legs means for me, this is difficult., nay impossible.
I’d be happy to keep her just to look at, but finding myself owning a 701 enduro and Beta 300, I would like a road orientated bike (ideally with luggage but not a deal breaker) to complete shortish tours and road trips.
I’m thinking someone may have a suitable bike, fancies a classic 80’s trail bike and has long legs (or more skill than I) who would consider an exchange. I value the bike as it stands at circa £3000. I’d be happy to add £2-3k for the right bike.
Bikes I’d consider are an eclectic mix so I’ve put a list together below. Electric start, ability to put in my van on my own (701 fits, R9T fitted, 1250 did but was too heavy)
So:
1200TC triple black (last of them so 2011/12)
V7 Guzzi post ‘21
V85TT
R9T (all varieties)
XADV 750 (wild card)
F800GS (Trophy)
WHY..
The list will probably grow. Popping the advert up as I can’t be bothered again with the hassle of selling via national advert after regent experience selling my 1250. Someone on here would be much preferred to do a deal with.
