Here I am again looking for the answer to the big mystery that has stopped me using the bike for a few weeks now.

Switch bike on and no gear indication although neutral light is on and goes off when you put it into gear. No fuel level showing and no sound of the pump priming itself.

To-date....

All connections cleaned under the tank
Fuel pump taken out and checked - it is working
All fuses and relays checked

The bike is stripped down and does anyone know if a faulty little box (the one on the instrument panel) that has the clock, gear indicator and fuel/oil levels would create this problem.

I'm stuck now and totally p'd off with it.

Anyone want to buy an old 1150GS - 65k on the clock and I've just put some hammerite on the front forks

Check fuse 5 again.....replace it just in case....then follow the wiring for that one in particular.

Oh....the side stand switch will do this as well......bypass it and my bet is it'll all magically work again :)

Also check the kill switch on the right handlebar. That switches off the fuel pump and gear indicator.

Thanks - the side stand switch was disconnected a while back, I should also have mentioned that the computer thing has been broken for a while now, i.e. the diagnostics will not work as the motronic unit is u/s. It has been running though for a few years with these small things !

The switch on the right sounds like the last chance before I put a match in the tank - I'll go check that and replace the fuse as well

bike turns over?but no fuel pump like the man says sounds like side stand switch .Have you checked continuity between relay and ss switch,ss switch and kill switch, are you sure the relay is ok,have you got current coming from relay to pump, have you disconnected pump and checked for continuity on the pump earth to frame, all else fails not far from you and sure if it comes to it we could swap components for diagnostic purposes, cheers

Kill switch is working and I have power all the way through to the fuel pump, side stand switch is stripped with a croc clip holding 2 wires together.

Got a fluk on all the wires and proved switches are good. Green/red and green from the switch through to the wiring block.

A summary then, fuel pump doesn't prime up but I've taken the pump out and it works.

Since about 2004/5 (after taking the cat off) the computer thing hasn't worked - would this be the problem (I hope not as they are about £300).

Good news is - the wiring is probably the cleanest bunch wires you've ever seen !

E-Bay sounds a good idea as this is driving me daft now

check the earth to the pump,if thats ok and current from relay with ignition on can only be the relay is not supplying enough juice, how did you test the pump in situ?are you sure wiring out of tank is ok

can take a pump and relay off one of the bikes, probably make life easier, musselburgh near a1/bypass

I took the pump out the tank to check it. I'll double check the earth again but last time I followed the brown wire all the way back and it was good.

Wiring out of tank is getting power and I've moved the relays over and getting power back into the tank.

As I said, I'll go double check earths etc. again but just not getting that initial buzz when you turn things on.

If it is easier I can pop down - got a mate turning up tonight that is a mechanic to have a look as well. Otherwise it is about 18miles up the A1 - More West Barns than Dunbar.

Hi Guys. What was the outcome? I have a similar problem with my GS.

You might be better off starting your own new thread with more bike and symptom details with more info on what led up to the failure and what you have to try and fix it.
Wecome to the site btw.
