Bike won't start - any ideas?

Dont have the plug caps or spark plug out and exposed when you do this
BOOM :D

....even disconnect the fuel line on the head of the injector, and use a "coffee can" as a catch can and see if you have proper fuel flow, after you turn on the key.

Sometimes the mist coming out of the injector is kinda hard to see unless you put a piece of cardboard in front of the injector. It also can reveal a spray pattern or clogged injector.

Assuming you have spark -

If you don't get fuel out of the injector - the injector could be blocked, OR there is no fuel pressure, OR there is no electrical signal.

Connecting the injector electrically direct to the battery (for a very short time - say 2 seconds) should result in a spray of fuel.
If still no fuel then check for fuel at the injector input by disconnecting the injector and turning the motor over - you should get lots of fuel coming from where the injector was connected - if not you have fuel supply problem, - check filter/pump.

--- If the above is ok then - blocked injector.
Had a blocked injector on the K75.

Took the injector off and blew through it - mouth pressure only. Connected the electrical connections directly to the battery but used one hand to make the final connection so I could turn it on and off - you don't want to leave it turned on as it could be damaged. This did get the bike running and it has been fine since. I did use some of that additive stuff you put in the tank to clean injectors - even put some of it neat into the injector before reinserting it in the fuel rail.

Put new plugs in. Had the same problem on a friends CBR600 a few months back. He hadn't started the bike in some time then tried starting it with a weak/flat battery. Ended up fouling the plugs. (Even with the old plugs removed they gave a weak spark - not strong enought to ignite a mixture under pressure). New plugs sorted it straight away.

Gave up and hired a van.

Arrived at Pidcocks, where I bumped into Gazza (small world!). Roger (?) the mechanic switched the ignition on and straight away said 'You've got a fuel line disconnected' (apparently he could tell immediately from the sound it was making). The guilty connector was re-seated and the bike fired up.

It was good to hear it running again...:)

They're now keeping the bike to sort out some warranty issues for me - should be ready to pick up next Saturday (11th). Thanks for everybody's ideas...

Mike:)

Mike, I live half way between Lincoln and Nottingham, I'd be happy to pick you up and get you to your bike at Pidcocks on the 11th.

A bit of a thankyou for the enjoyment I got out of your trip across the pond.

Cheers,
Kev
