Ok , I gave the bike a service last night . Rocker end float , Valve clearences , TPS set up , Oil & Filter & new plugs .
I fired it up last night and it was running sweet as a nut .Ran it for about 10 mins .
Just went out to the garage to give it run and it won't bloody start :blast:blast
checked the kill switch was off . DAMHIK :D
checked the fuses
re-checked TPS
sprayed the sidestand switch with wd40
checked it was in neutral .

It's making all the right noises , just wont start . pulled the plug leads and it doesn't appear to have a spark .

SIDESTAND SWITCH ????
HALL SENSOR ?????
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS :nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau

Ok , cheers for that . :thumb
sidestand switch ruled out .
any other obvious things that I may be missing ??
Is it possible to check the hall sensor on the bike ?? and if so , how ??

Erm ,,,,, welll ,,,, the plugs are still in the bike . I used the old ones to check for a spark . I'll go and check the plugs now . :D:D

Recheck all your connections before going mad and changing the coil and hall sensors. I had a broken wire in the loom on mine re. lights but in looking to find that, found a fair bit of corrosion in the block connectors. Check through those.
You say you checked the fuses - looked at them? How are the contacts where they slot in?

Have fun. See you at teatime...

Ok , managed to get all the multiplugs undone , cleaned and lubed , not much corrosion after all. No glaringly obvious wiring faults . I think I'm beat. :blast:blast
Even snipped the sidestand switch wires and bypassed this just in case.
Anyone got any ideas what else I should try :nenau:nenau

When you started it after the service, how long did you run it for?

Sounds like its flooded to me. Try to start it with a wide open throttle...

My 1150 GSA did that once.

Check the wire that runs from the battery into the base of the coil. It's a sod to get at, but could be corroded and shagged.

Don't do what I did and buy a new coil.

DAMHIKE :D

Ok , this is pissing me off now . the bike just fired up and ran sweet . left it ticking over for a couple of minutes and it chucked it . It just stopped like i'd turned the key off. No spluttering or missing .:mad:

Would the hall sensor do this :nenau:nenau

What about the wire on the headstock?

Its known to chaff and kill the bike.

I take it the bike was running OK before you serviced it? If so, I’d be looking at the changes that were made during the service. Have you put the old plugs back in for testing yet? I’d try that first, there’s a possibility that you’ve bought the wrong plugs or you’ve got a bad batch.

How did you get on with the TPS settings? I’d certainly be looking into that.
Otherwise, if it’s coincidental additional failure I’d look into testing the hall sensor – search here, there’s an easy test that involves bumping the rear wheel and listening for fuel pump priming, or look into the coil block under the tank. I’ve had both hall sensor failure and single spark coil failure in the past. Check the coil for signs of cracking or damage and ideally change with a mates bike if possible. IIRC the symptoms of coil failure were similar to yours – i.e. bike hard to start and when it did run it would fail after a small amount of time.

Last thought – also worth checking that you have reseated the little rubber bungs that sit underneath the throttle bodies and make sure they aren’t perished.

Let us know how you get on and good luck. I know what it’s like!
