I give up!
Get some contact cleaner or wd40 on those electrical contacts. Having to tap bulbs to work is normally a sign of water ingress and corrosion. Replacing the bulb might work as this will disrupt rust... but it will stop working again if you do not fix the root of the problem. Rust comes back pretty quickly. Give it a good clean and then wrap the area with tape. Good luck and enjoy the process... you can do it.

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!

Don't forget to add the 20% code (its on the home page) when you are checking out.
The Phillips twin pack for €16 (less 20%) would be the ones I'd go for.

When you tap a bulb thats not working and it then comes on it means the filament is broken. By taping it the broken ends make contact and "weld" themselves together again as long as there is current flowing. Switch off the lights and current stops, filament ends separate again until you tap the bulb while the lights are on

It's not hard to test a bulb
Interesting thanks!

You've not actually heard of Smelly's prowess with spanners and mechanical things then?
