Anyone fitted Bmw Adventure aluminium panniers on a standard Gs? Approximately how much are the racks and footpeg hangers that need swapping over?

Pictures of panniers on bike please .

Can't remember the frame price, but not cheap from BMW - likely get some on here.

I used panniers and top box, usually separately, on my GS as i found them a million times better than the Varios.

That said, I have ditched all luggage apart from an 18L SW-Motech soft bag now. I've gone minimalist and for a week away, that's all I need.

Last trip, i removed and sold the frames and panniers, in favour of top box only.

I bought a set of GSA footpeg hangers which I think cost £165 used but in very good condition. I used these when fitting some Shad luggage on modified frames because the Vario box support peg on the GS hangers was in the way.

Used them on my GS for a while. I was lucky to find some footpegs hangers on this site-- they were standard ones with the Vario lugs cut off.
Racks easy to fit but make sure you heat the footpeg hanger bolts as they are Loctited in.
That's a Holan topbox in the pics-- fits straight onto the GSA rack. Slightly lower than the BMW one and slightly bigger.

The GSA hangers come with brackets which contain a threaded portion which I believe is used as an anchor point for the pannier frames, and which I used as the front lower support for my Shad frames. I think you would therefore still need these brackets if using cut down GS hangers.

I have a set of GSA LC pannier frames that are now surplus to requirements, I will dig them out and take a pic or two but they are in excellent little used condition.

I have the Adv panniers and top box fitments for my 1250 GS Rallye, had to buy new pannier racks, rear top box rack and footage hangars at at total cost of around £650.

Well worth it IMHO as i believe the Adv panniers look so much better than the varios...

Looking just over grand for touratech zega pro2 boxes and rails but the exhaust box sits in closer which is good probably what I'll fit to my gs

Had the GSA racks and panniers on my 17 Rallye for a couple of trips but preferred to do weekend trips with a GSA Top Box only so tended to take the pannier racks off.

I love those mountain pictures :) Why do you guys think these type of panniers are better than the varios out of interest; because of the top loading? I specifically went for the Varios so I could keep the bike narrow.

They look cooler!

But yes, top loading for me is the benefit.

In the end I learned to travel with less, so sold the panniers, using just the top box, before selling the bike and converting to a small rear bag and tank bag.

The GSA panniers are so much more practical due to the top loading. They are lighter than the vario panniers and in my opinion look better too.

I had Vario panniers previously and I hate how much space is lost inside them due to the vario system. I wish they just made them in that style half way sized between the reduced and enlarged size and without the adjustment. That way the one on the exhaust side might actually be of some use. On the GSA panniers the exhaust side pannier is much, much better and has useful capacity.

Ah thanks I get you; the exhaust side isn't much use when collapsed I must admit. I had the Adventure style panniers on a KTM Adv I had a few years back and I couldn't filter in traffic and it really messed up the road handling. I was really worried about this with the GS but have been pleasantly surprised to find it made almost no difference when fully loaded up. The collapsed Varios have become my default configuration because they dont affect me filtering through traffic which is one of the big reasons I like to be on a bike for trips.

As my touring is 2 up I need the extra space so need panniers I have vario now but we filled them completely for 12 days but also top loading is a big miss even just for jacket liners

On my GS LC I've fitted the GSA pannier racks / cases but have retained the original GS top box plate and fitted an Altrider/Givi plate. This has enabled me to use a Givi Trekker 52L case which works much better touring 2-up, great for locking up both helmets when we stop anywhere.

Point of note ... there's only one of the GS pillion footpegs needs trimming to fit the GSA racks, the other works fine as it is. Without looking I can't remember which though!

I have thought about using the gsa ones as well just haven't got round to pricing it up and I'm already using givi trekker outback 58 litre top box as you say perfect for 2 helmets

GSA pannier lids will open okay with the 52L Givi Trekker, I suspect you'd struggle with the 58L Outback.
