BMW advice on brake discs life

then listen up,,


UPDATE is that BMW (UK)state that ANYTHING over 10k miles per brake disc is classed as fair ware and tear,

So now i have to look forward to changing them every year, on top of the FOUR services i have. So just in these two items i'm looking at over 3000 pounds per year to keep it on the road.(*only hope the wife doesnt find out)

and i thought these bikes are built to go round the world,they such good quality!! may get too expensive to ride to the shops and back

Not very good is it. My BMW car is the same - the brake pads last for 40k but thats the same is the disk life. Seems to be because the pads are sintered and contain a lot of iron filings, so "iron" pads are rubbing against "iron" discs and both wearing out together. Cant use asbestos any longer.

So its a bit like the paint issue, the result of all these lentil eating eco freeks and the restrictions they bring in. Or something like that

My first 12GS had perfect discs after running 33k miles. new ones shows no wear after 7k miles. Quite odd to have such a major diff.

Indeed, the discs on my bike have done 27,000 miles and are in very good shape.

I predicted the wear rate on the Honda I just sold would be 120,000 miles for the front discs!!!

Are these BMW discs made from composite choclate?

Its perfectly simple we will all just have to stop using our brakes. This will also cure all those ABS / servo hiccups. I found that firmly jamming my plimsole to the tyre brought my Raleigh grifter to a halt far more effectively than the rubbish side pull brakes so I will use this technique on the gs as well.

Sounds like a glitch in the warrany more than the bike - 31k miles 2-up here and the disks are fine.
