Hi all,
when I bought my 08 GSA I ordered it with the BMW alarm. It arrived with the alarm fitted and came complete with the two remotes. The thing is there's nothing mentioned about its operation in the little hand book which was supplied in Spanish, (which is not a problem), when I bought the bike along with a thin book explaining the limitations of the guarantee, but that was it as far as manuals.
From what I have worked out so far:
When I press the ribbed button the indicators flash, the alarm is activated.
If I continually press the ribbed button the indicators flash and the alarm chirps. What does this do?
If I press the flat button the alarm is cancelled, likewise when I turn the ignition on. In both instances the indicators flash.
I once tested the alarm to see if it did anything and I remember it went of as soon as I tried to move it i.e. rotate the wheels. A gentle nudge did nothing.

Any help appreciated

Alarm operation

Hi GibGSA,

I've got a 07 GS so hope the alarm is the same.

Instructions says:

PRESS BUTTON 1( RIBBED) ONCE ACTIVATES ALARM (INDICATORS AND TONE SOUNDS 2X)

PRESS AGAIN DEACTIVATES MOTION SENSOR ( INDICATORS AND TONE SOUNDS 3X)

PRESS BUTTON 2 (FLAT) DEACTIVATES ALARM (INDICATORS AND TONE SOUND 1X)

Thats the simple bit.

If you keep pressing the ribbed button, there is a possibility you could enter the programming setup for the alarm, which is what happened to me. But my alarm turned out to be faulty anyway.

The programming information should be in the alarm manual, if not, go back to the dealer and get them to sort it, I did! There are too many combinations to mess with.

And to stop the agro I was having with mine I had it set to auto arm after ignition switch off.

Hope it's of some use?

This might help:

BMW Alarm programming...

The left button is button 1. The right button is button 2.

Step Action Confirmation
1 Deactivate alarm function
2 Ignition ON
3 Press button 1 three times 1 x acoustic acknowledgement
4 Switch ignition OFF within 10 seconds
5 Press button 2 three times 1 x acoustic acknowledgement
6 Switch ignition ON within 10 seconds 3 x acoustic acknowledgement

The programming function is now active.

The number of times the LED flashes indicates the step to which you have
progressed in programming.

An alarm tone sounds as confirmation when you press button 1, whereas an
acknowledgement tone sounds when you press button 2.

The LED stops flashing and four acknowledgement tones sound when you complete
the final step.

Step Setting Button 1 Button 2
1 Beep as confirmation after activation/deactivation ON OFF
2 Not Used Press Button 1 or 2
3 Type of acoustic alarm Swelling Intermittent
4 Automatic activation of alarm function when ignition is switched off ON OFF

Thanks guys, I'll try the programming and next time I'm up near Malaga I'll pop into the dealer and ask for the alarm manual.

Many thanks to all
