BMW Dealers

I've been looking for a bit for a good twin cam or a good priced LC.. but nothing coming up?... shame... as the dealers are getting very rich out of us!! :)

Neenaw I got the same nonsense from Scottish dealers so went and bought mine from a guy called Steve Knight at Carlisle dealer. The dealers in Scotland are a waste of time IMHO they are not really interested in selling their products, they act like they are doing you a favour and that their bikes sell themselves. I was less than impressed so spent my money on a full spec new 2017 GSA Triple Black elsewhere. Getting the first service done was easy just a wee trip down to Carlisle via country roads lunch when waiting and a nice trip back. I will have the second service done with them for warranty purposes then either head to Jackson's in Kelty or do myself in future.

Shop about and don't be afraid to ask for cheaper they can only say no.

I hate to see the PX ones going in at such a low price... Got a mate who was offered £8k for a mint 2014 LC with 11K miles on it... they will sell this for £10K plus... Why don't people put them on here mid way, then its win / win for us all?....

That's a dreadful PX, I've been offered £9,700 PX on a GSA 2014 with approaching 29,000 on the clock.

They sell it, including 2yrs warranty, pay VAT on profit, have business costs to pay and then corp tax.........

I think you are expecting them to be a charity?

Not expecting them to be a charity , my point was that at the time my bike had the transferable BMW extended warranty that had been paid for (12 months) , the next owner could then renew the warranty the following year as long as they kept up the service history (at the time £300) .

So for £2500 less than the then dealer prices they would get a bike that had just been BMW serviced , had new tyres, a load of extras plus original parts, a years MOT and the full warranty and for the price of a £200 service and £300 they could extend it for a further year and then still be £2000 in pocket and yet at the time I got zero enquiries.

In say a transaction where someone is paying out in excess of £10k maybe spending an extra £2k with a dealer with the ability to go back if a problem develops gives the punter a bit of peace-of-mind / security.

I bought mine three weeks before Christmas (year old LC). Told him the deal I wanted. Took him three weeks to come around to it after making various offers. Then he also threw in a new set of tyres and a major service. Great dealership to deal with. Got a great price on my GTR1400 trade in too. Over 1/2 what I paid for it 10 years ago. Altough it was immaculate. And yes you have to give them some meat on the bone. Deals gotta be good on both sides for it to work

From what I understand with the PCP, yes you can cancel and pay the balance but the sales person looses the commission on the sale of the finance which I think is a bit sneaky.
I know money in your pocket is better than in someone else's but myself I would discuss this with the guy selling you the bike. I just think I would rather be up front because you may need to go back at a later date for whatever reason and you can do so without feeling a right twat.

Tried that 4 years ago with an immaculate 3 year old R1200GSA , fsh, low mileage fitted with panniers , extras and Maxton suspension and new tyres , it also had the transfereable BMW extended warranty and I advertised it at mid way between the ridiculous low part ex offer and the dealer selling prices .

Not one enquiry , at the same time an ex work colleague was after a similar bike and paid £3000 more for an almost identical bike from a local dealer that was not as well looked after .

Go Figure , many will happily pay a dealer over the odds.

In the end kept it for another 16 months and still sold it for £1500 more than the initial part ex offer

Same here with my Rallye. Plenty of “great price mate” and a few PM’s, but no actual offers. In the end I stripped all the parts off, sold the bike to a dealer for cash, and the parts on here, and made over £1k more.

Saying that, I’ve sold a few bikes on here as well, so it’s all a mystery!

Then it is probably down to buyers being able to get a bike from the dealer on pcp which you are up against. He might not have £10k to spend, but has £170 a month.

But - don’t think that dealers are making a killing, that is extremely doubtful. I think they are also wondering where they will be in 2-3yrs’ time - financially.

Just bought privately, better deal than any of the lazy money grabbers showrooms I have been in recently.

Thats not my experience of dealers in Scotland, Parks East Kilbride I'm more than happy with, have bought my last 2 bikes from them both ex bmw management GSA's with little miles fully specc'd with full luggage, enjoyed my full tank of petrol on collection, 2 years warranty including breakdown, 15-20% discount on any parts or servicing, free ride outs with lunch thrown in a few times a year and more than fair part exchange values.

got to say, the local one I go to sound like the same set up... I want to pay cash for a bike, but that does not float their boat... they was finance or 3 year HP with buy options at the end.... go in with money and they don't like to talk too long????...

Despite buying a new bike every 2-3 years for the past 10 years or so, Allan Jefferies have lost all interest in trying to sell me a new bike as I said I would just pay cash to change. Unless it’s a PCP or HP deal they’re just not interested as they make more money on the finance deal

The next dealer you try might have the same attitude, but just avoid Jeffries for all future maintenance etc.

Send the manager a card with the caption "There will be lean years ahead"
