Firstly hello to all,
Secondly I dont own a BMW and in all honesty im probally not likely to unless my fortunes change and it becomes a second bike, I currently ride a ZZR1400 which I enjoy very much.

However I have aquired a BMW heated vest with no power cable. After trolling the internet with little success I am hoping there is some knowledge on here. I know I dont ride a GS and not wanting to be fly by but any advise would be greatly received.

Firstly I cant seem to find any where atol I could buy a spare lead also if I could I dont have the BMW socket I have a standard 12v socket(iecigerette lighter)
which im guessing i could swap over if need be.

Also after searching the internet I have noticed alot of complait's about the socket, it is the 4 pin one.

So i guess my main questions are.. Where could i buy a new lead/controller or am i better of just replacing it with my own one elliminating the troublesome socket(so ive read) at the same time.

and also there is 4 wires 2 blue and 2 grey going to the 4 pin socket, is that powering 2 seperate heating elaments or is there some other use.

As said any info gladly received, cheers chaps

I'm pretty sure you can buy a cable at a BMW dealer. The vest has a high and low setting controlled by the button on the controller sitting online in the cable which will probably account for the 4 wires.

Hi Tobers thanks, Thee nearest dealer is my next port of call. Ive been doing a bit of testing and only two wires have got continuity and the wires happen to be the same colour the blue. so either there is two elements and one isn't working or there is a thermostat switch of some sort on the grey wires. I think I will just conect the jacket straight on to a 12v feed and see if it gets hot.

You are correct, the two pairs of wires are for heating (heavier pair) and thermostat (lighter pair). The connector is crap, so you might as well connect 12V straight onto the heating pair, via a fuse unless you fancy getting burnt if something fails. You might get a bit hot in not too cold weather, but I use mine on the high setting nearly all the time.

Thanks Shugie, I think I will conect straight to the heating pair with an in line fuse, Maybe put a switch in there some where aswell, Thanks for replies:thumb
