Has anyone had any experance with the extended warranty offered by BMW, is it good value or not. can't make up my mind if to take it up or not.

If you are happy to have you bike serviced in a main dealer it's good value. JJH

Please search as it has been discussed a 1000 times including whether you need to get the service at the main dealer or not!

The two trains of thought will no doubt give you their two penneth.
I took it out last Sept on my 63 plate TC TB. For this one year only. I have had some very good 'goodwill' from Allan Jefferies over the years and it has certainly more than made up for the extra I pay for it being serviced there.
After this year I'll 'risk' it and hope I don't have an expensive failure. I had the exhaust valve replaced during its 2yr service at BMW for free...someone will tell me you can delete the valve for sod all anyway.

I'd heartily recommend it and I've used it on three or four occasions both for breakdown call out and to replace parts.

What I would do, however, is opt to pay monthly. That means you don't have to fork out a lump all in one go and if you sell the bike there is no need to arrange a refund, simply stop the direct debit.

When doing your reckoning don't forget that it includes European breakdown and recovery cover

I very much doubt that the breakdown cover you would get with vehicle insurance is anywhere near as comprehensive as what you get with a Motorrad Warranty Policy, but if you don't want the cover you have the option delete it from the policy

I believe the saving in doing so is around the £130 mark

Here we go again :blast

Just 'cos you've been here for a while. Next you'll be discouraging the OP from asking questions about which oil or whether it's worth trading up to a WC GS. Be kind to us Johnny come lately's.

Back to the OP - you'd be absolutely mad not to have a warranty, it's a no-brainer OR just put the money in the bank and pay for your own repairs, it's a no-brainer. Or better still - trade your bike in for a Honda or a KTM or anything but a Narley. Hope this helps ;)

+1 ... It's the easy option :thumb2

Yea that'll work .... Had 5 Harleys and without doubt they were the most reliable bikes I've ever owned

Fantastic bikes - I've only had one, but never let me down in 100,000,000 miles and everyone I know who has one never stops talking about the unbelievable reliablity, sophisticated engineering and the sheer thrill of that Sunday ride in the twisties. Not to mention the leather waistcoats and tassels. I can't understand why some people just don't get them? I look in on the Gnarley bar occasionally and marvel at the erudite expressions of camaraderie. (mostly "fuck off and then fuck off some more" - what a hoot, eh?!).

I took mine at 35K miles from an owner who had used the additional warranty and BMW service. I decided to go it alone and have had a few parts failure issues but doubt I would not have got my money back on a warranty deal.

Each to their own.

Edit: The warranty would have paid for the fuel strip so probably worth it for that alone. Not to mention two ignition coils at £80 each.

Had it on my last bike, a K1600, and on the TC for a while. The K1600 needed front wheel bearings but the £100 excess meant that I had to pay for them anyway. Something to bear in mind unless you have a real biggie problem.
Incidentally, it's not the same as the original warranty. If your engine paint falls off, tough.
If you feel happier with the BMW warranty then go for it. I know that I felt happier with it when I had the K1600. If anything went wrong with it, it would have been telephone numbers to fix!
I decided to do away with it since I got the TC and just make sure it's serviced regularly and properly. Now have European roadside motorcycle recovery for £58 a year from Smart Insurance. Any good? Don't know yet.
Has a handy ap for your phone so that when you break down, you click the button, it sends them your GPS co-ordinates from your phone and they give you a ring in a few minutes to see what's wrong.

When I had my f800gsa I had BMW warrenty which of course included breakdown assistance. Also had it on my insurence. Leaving work one evening take bike off centre stand only to discover I had a puncture in back wheel. No bother says I to myself I've double insurence here no need to panic. Ring one crowd and they don't fix tubed tyers but we can collect bike and drop it off in dealers in morning. Can't help with getting you home though. Only 30 miles. Great says I I'll ring my 2nd get me out of jail card. Same story. Load of bollocks. I put 2 tool tubes with enough tools to fix a puncture on the front crash bars. I don't bother with breakdown service any more. Now have 1200 GSA neat little puncture kit under seat. JJH

I broke down on the M5 - i had main dealer Warranty Breakdown Cover... i waited 5 hours for a sweaty oik to turn up, he spent the 150 miles journey to my chosen dealer driving with his elbows because he was constantly stuffing his face.... all main dealers sub out the recovery, there will be no difference in that element at all.

I'm not sure what a main dealer warranty breakdown cover is but I'm assuming that you mean a BMW Motorrad Extended Warranty Policy or Approved Use Bike Warranty Policy supplied with your used BMW?

If this is the case then the recovery would have been organised through Mondial (branded as BMW) and not your local dealer. Mondial's preferred contractor would be SOS Motorcycle Recovery who I have used through Mondial on a couple of occasions without issue, although it is understandable that they may not have had a dedicated SOS Recovery vehicle on call at the time of your breakdown hence the sweaty oik :comfort
