Just gone back to an ADV, but now need to find a good method of fitting the BMW Nav II that I had on the 1200GS. Once again there are too many options and not enough info on what actually works. Any help in making the decision would be great!

Hi NN,

I use a MiGSel mount, which fits around the speedometer and provides you with a RAM ball just above the speedo.

In this picture, I've used a medium length arm (3 1/2"?) to connect it to the plate bolted to the back of the cradle. I've since replaced it with a short arm (1 3/4"). RAM Man will be able to advise you on the various bits you need.

The mount keeps the unit close to your normal vision line. So close, in fact, that I've now taken off all the Autocom/helmet speaker arrangement, as the screen change which occurs at the same time as the voice prompt catches my eye and I find I no longer need Bettie to bitch at me...

This picture shows the shorter arm fitted - it wobbles less with the short arm fitted, and you can get it just about vertical - although even with the medium arm fitted, on gravel roads, the security has never been a concern.

If I remember correctly, the mount costs €80. Very nicely made and, best of all, fitting and removal is undetectable - the only permanent alterartion you need to make to your bike to fit this is to cut a gap in the plastic flange on the rear of the silver 'underscreen', to allow your cables to route unobtrusively to the unit.

Top tip - take your power take off from the sidelight circuit - that way you will minimise the amount of corrosion to the power contact on the sliding plug - but you can switch to parking lights if you want to use the unit for an extended period without running the engine...

Mike:)

I like this..........
How is the mount, fitted to the clock? is it simply clamped somehow? has anyone got any new advice or experience with this set-up?
Im going for the 2720, so hope this can be done, im thinking, Migsel clock mount, short ram-man.

It's held in by the flange on the speedo. You need to undo the speedo cable at the wheel, remove the big silver panel, remove the nuts on the back of the speedo and pull it forwards away from the dash, slide the MiGSel mount over the back of the speedo, and re-assemble.

Job done.

None so far. although I've only been using it for a couple of months. I use the short ram-arm as Mike suggested, and there's little or no vibration.

It's an excellent setup, although I do like the look of this offering from Dutch and Co. at MotorradConcepts.

Ive also looked at that set-up, i agree, it looks the dogs. im not sure of the price comparison though? and if there are any issues, like the vibration?

We think the price compares well with MiGSel's original offering....with his plate you just get the RAM ball onto which you have to add a RAM arm of youyr choice and then a RAM mounting plate onto which the Nav II/III cradle fixes.

Our item fits in exactly the same way, courtesy of the back plate being custom made for us by MiGSel and the other two elements adjust in just the single plane .
Once fitted & adjusted correctly the entire ensemble is rigid, secure & vibration free.

Cheers

Dutch
