Hi

a mate of mine has got an R1150RT 2002 and he wants to run the power to his tom tom sat nav.

Has anyone got any ideas where to find a perminant live around the headlight area..

Yeh i know its not a GS but it is a BMW!!:D :D :D

Live feeds.

The easiest way of doing this is to take off the side panel and run a extension from the existing power socket on the side. Simple connections and will be correctly fused, this will also avoid attempting to cut ito the wiring harness. Disconnect the battery before attempting this mod.

Would it not be easier to hook directly up to the battery itself ???

if he has no radio fitted then theres a connector tied to the loom under the plastics (lhs) thats where most rt owners pick up the power for gps ( i think its fused 10 amps so an aditional one rated 1/2 amps is recomended). for more info check out bmrider.com. george seems to be the most informed on these matters.

piggy back from dipped headlamp connections in the headlamp body.
This means you will not be able to use the Tom Tom when the headlamp is switched off.thus it acts as a reminder to switch headlamp on.
