Bmw R1300GSA Rattling

Is it bike speed or engine revs
So its related to engine revs and load.
If i rev the engine when the bike is stationary it doesn’t rattle.
If i ride in any gear at any speed, just coasting , it doesn’t rattle.
If i pull the clutch in at any speed and just freewheel, rev the engine up and down, it doesn’t rattle.
As soon as i accelerate, it rattles, it more noticeabe at lower speeds, probably because there is no wind noise.
The best thing i can say is at least the earplugs filter the noise out.
Its a big shame though. It would be nice to be able to ride the bike on short lower speeds rides without earplugs.

Also i would upload a picture, but i can’t workout how to upload from my phone. Can only seem to be able to attach links.

Give the front end plastic bits a pat down and make sure everything is sitting right and there are no loose clips.

What you are describing there -especially the propensity for the `rattle` to be provoked when the engine is loaded or under acceleration - are very similar symptoms to what has been discussed at length in this thread on the 1250`s.
Sounds like pinking.

What fuel are you putting in it? I use Tesco's super unleaded in my 1250 (RS)

I took it out for a ride yesterday. Now Im aware of it I can hear it even through the earplugs.
Im pretty sure the noise is coming from inside the engine covers. I originally thought it was coming from somewhere down on the front where the nose fairing is.
If the bike is stationary and i let the revs drop right down, then rev it very quickly, i can hear the rattle briefly. Definitely coming from inside the engine. Its very annoying on a brand new bike that is otherwise so perfect.
When I’m riding it, it’s mainly tootling around up to 30 or 40 that the rattling is most noticeable.
If I’m winding on doing 80mph in 3rd, or just coasting in 6th there is no rattling.

That thread does describe pretty closely what im experiencing.

From what I can hear on the video, I would say that is it just running very lean with a lot of ignition advance (as BMW intended) ...right up against the knock limits of the fuel. It controls fueling and ignition in a closed loop of continued adjustment with feedback from knock sensors to extract the performance and economy we/ you expect while still meeting ignition standards. If you listen to any ultra modern gasoline engine they all sound like a tin bucket bein kicked down the road for the same reason. By all means get it checked for your own sanity, I would, but I think that's what they will say.

This is exactly it, there are various YouTube videos about this ive just found.
Yep, i can deffo hear the noise - it`s most pronounced in the first couple of seconds of the vid. That`s pinking.

Why the F can`t BMW make an engine that doesn`t pink? You would of thought that with all the technology available these days this sort of irritation was long gone. I thought that kinda` problem ended decades ago..

Why the F would an extremely rare problem with one bike out of tens of thousands elicit such ridiculous response.

it's impossible to determine anything from that video and everyone in this thread is simply guessing down a very narrow road with blinders on. A proper diagnostics procedure is the only way to deal with this.
