Boodly bolt

I had all the bolts out of the rear of the bike a few weeks ago, cleaned off the Locktite and coated with copper slip before refitting. All came out well, with the exception of the two rear ones for the rack, they were much tighter than all the rest. When cleaned off, the threads were good, so can only assume they had an extra dose of Locktite.

Locktite is used on those bolts for a reason. Using coppaslip as an alternative is not a good idea. What could fall off when the bolts bounce off down the road? Or do you intend to check the torque on them every time you ride?

That's why paint pens were invented, so you have a quick visual of any movement. Never had a bolt with Copper Slip come lose in the 30 years plus I have been using it on marine craft systems and hull fittings, trucks, bikes and cars. BMW are not always right in the engineering practices they apply. Take the piss poor effort of minimal grease on the final drive shift as a prime example.

You might be right in the application but loctite was invented as a security device in applications whee there is likely to be vibration.

I don't expect to see loctite in every home mechanic's garage but I have. It is bloody expensive though.

As for wet torque and dry torque that is a different matter.

Reminds me of a car i purchased about 25 years ago that had a snapped bolt which would easily been seen with the bonnet up

The previous owner cut a similar and bolt and glued it in :blast

Soak in plus gas or similar releasing spray (WD40 is NOT a releasing spray)... for 24 hours... then do it again for another 24 hours.
Then (as said before) hammer in the next size up torx bit, and use an impart driver or windy-gun to get it out.

Then have a LARGE beer to celebrate while you order a new bolt.

This. Plus Gas. WD40 is a water dispersant & lubricator.
