that night I get up for a pee, and take the opportunity to gaze out the window at the stars, and listen to two or three Nightingales singing loudly across the wooded valley that fronts the hotel. I've not heard Nightingales in the UK at night, since the early eighties, so its a rare treat to hear these male birds singing LOUDLY, trying to coax a passing-by female to drop in, and have a quick look, a flapping about and coupling, and then be off again... some things never change

Millau to Sort
340 Miles.
A bit of a beast of a day, left at 0930 and arrived at 2115, dinner finished at 2130
Stunning start to the day with some lovely views of Millau Viaduct.
Onwards in great weather to Carcassone.
I was here years ago when they painted yellow stripes on the castle, they've gone now but you can just make out where they were.
Drop bikes and a walk round the castle, finding a very cool little place for lunch.
The great roads continue to Andorra, lovely blasting blast places where you've skied 20 metres away
The 260 to Sort was as great as I remember it, there's now a nice viewing platform near the top, despite us pushing our luck with dinner time we had to stop.
Into Sort and my usual hotel.
Secure parking and a huge map up of great bike routes.
Food shower crash out, were here for 2 nights so a light day is in order tomorrow.
