in many African countries to see folk wearing sandles made from old car tyres
I dropped a bottle of Lenor Outdoorable (Northern Soldtice) fabric conditioner on the kitchen tiles last week. Wiped it up with a T-shirt destined for the wash, and 5 minutes later hit a skid pan.I needed to reproof a textile jacket, so hung it in a doorway above a tiled floor, and liberally sprayed it with nikwax silicon (silicone? never sure)
Holy crap, the floor below the jacket was indescribably slippery for ages afterwards, I think white spirit eventually fixed it. Lesson learnt!
According to the size guide on Sportsbike shop, 46 is a UK 11 and a USA 11.5So been looking at the Daytona Roadstar Pro GTX boots.
I have now bought a pair in size 46.
My normal motorcycle boot size is 46, but reading Daytona's size chart there 46 is uk 11.5 where most are a size 11 for a 46.
I know i wear a bit thicker socks in the winter, so hopefully they will be ok.
So i'll keep my RST Pathfinders for spring and summer now.
I also have RST Frontier boots that i wear in the summer when riding in my armoured jeans on them hot days ( so one week a year lol ).
The likes of Metzeller already make rubber soles, so I put my order in for a Karoo 3 bootie. We need a new thread on the world’s shoe sizes. This could include the length of tyre carcass required, to make an African gentleman a pair of sandals. Here is some inspiration:

They most certainly do. Three soles in less than two years on my Altberg walking boots. They certainly wear out faster than say a Vibram sole
Same with a lot of the leisure type outdoor shoes like Merrell and Meindl, really grippy but wear out faster.
So the question is what is the slippiest terrain, and what are the soles of choice?
And the answer is a rocky river bed, and the best waders come with felt soled boots.
I had 2 pairs of Defenders where the sole de-laminated and let water come in.They most certainly do. Three soles in less than two years on my Altberg walking boots.
I certainly won’t be replacing them with any more Altbergs. My chainsaw boots are Meindl and they have been great. I haven’t walked as long days miles wise as I have in my Altbergs but I have worn them for very long days in the forest. The new Haix chainsaw boots look good so I might have a look at their walking boot options too.I had 2 pairs of Defenders where the sole de-laminated and let water come in.
I believe the bike boots are better, but I gave up on the brand.
Shame as I fancied a pair of their tabbing boots, which were as close as I can find to the no longer available British Army Assault Boots.
Now that was a great, lightweight, none lined but waterproof boot with a great and silent sole.
Have a pair of Meindl Dovre and the equivalent Zamberlan hunting boot.I certainly won’t be replacing them with any more Altbergs. My chainsaw boots are Meindl and they have been great. It should of said , "offering good grip on the bike, but don't put your foot down when its wet".
