I've always worn full face helmets but have had a hankering for something different for a while.
So after dropping my trusty Arai for the umpteenth time, I thought I'd use that as an excuse to get a new helmet.
I came across a favourable review at WebBikeworld and another write up from someone in America HERE
So, about the helmet. I have to echo the reports about the forward vision, incredible and certainly after years of full face helmets. I guess people with Flip fronts or open face's will be used to the sensation but feels so different to me.
Comfort seems fine and as I always wear earplugs, the noise is not intrusive and I'm happy with the weight, feels nice and light.
Wasn't sure about the securing strap at first, as my Arai has a double D ring but I like it now as it allows a good level of adjustment around the neck especially if I'm wearing a buff or a storm collar.
Hard to judge ventilation at this time of year and so soon into ownership but I definitely get the impression that it will be cool in warmer weather, which was one of my buying criteria.
The visor which has an anti fog coating which works very well and the sun visor is a great touch for us spectacle wearers........and FWIW, looks kinda cool to me!
Conclusion, I really like this helmet and I think it suits the GS style, if that's important at all.....though for some reason I find myself riding slower than with a full face. Maybe it's because I can see so much more and perhaps feel more 'Exposed'....
Negatives, none from me so far..... but I have a major problem with SWMBO. She is very concerned about the chin protection and more so with the fact that it is sits high on the neck, leaving more of the neck exposed and she wants me to get rid of it for that reason....!
To be fair, she is medically trained, has worked in A&E and seen some horrific spinal injuries.
For me, the improved vision, lack of weight and better mobility offered by the higher neck at the back, outweigh her perceived risks.
I'm trying to find some research that will support my thinking but with no luck so far. Has anyone else had this problem with their better halves?
I guess I'll be in for some ribbing about this but TBH, it's good that she cares....
but a bugger that she feels so strongly about it.
I've read loads of threads that go over the open face v full face debate but not seen any that highlight the 'cut' of the helmet at the back. Cabergs in general seem to do OK in safety tests but I wonder if any of you guys have looked at this when buying a helmet??
No such a quick review in the end, sorry, but I'm really interested in any opinions/wisdom either way.
