Bought a Stelvio

I haven't done many miles on the one I bought , however, quality seems to be on par with modern BMW's .

What I would say is that like the KTM I got rid of it would be a bit tight for two up touring with all the kit on (I am comparing it with the R1250GSA that I still own) but for solo use (or if your lass is a size 8 who can tour with just one change of underwear for two weeks then it would be fine).

Mine has done 6000 miles in the hands of it's first owner with no issues (I bought it from the supplying dealer) and it had been replaced with a new identical bike.

Best thing so far is that it has a bloody key that you put in a slot and turn to start it (hate BMW keyless and changing the batteries every 6 months ) also if I park it in a car park it is not like the BMW where there are half a dozen identical bikes and there is nothing in the current BMW 1300 / 900 range that I would want to own.

What Honda has got dodgy low speed fuelling ?
My 2024 NT1100 DCT. It is truly terrible. (Many other owners have expressed similar issues and'we' have put it down to how lean they tune it to meet Euro5+ limits. (A guy on the NT forum is a Supercar Tech from Spain and suggested a battery disconnect...reconnect, let the bike idle for 10 minutes then take it out for half an hour...it has made it maybe 60% better...but it is still shit and when I relocate to the UK next Spring, I won't be buying another...despite really liking the bike when it's above 40mph)

I don't want to put a downer on the Stelvio, but I've heard of owners of Mandello's complaining of electrical issues, to to point of selling them on. I was looking at one secondhand in a Dealership and was interrupted by a another customer who advised me to not buy it. 🤔
But Guzzi's do have a bit of style about them😎

Hmmmnnn, interesting post as I haven't heard or read of any Mandello electrical issues, not to say there aren't any of course.

One positive thing I will say is how good the engine is on these bikes, lots of low down grunt which makes them relaxing to ride.

Can't decide on a nav solution, so sort of given up on my new Stelvio.

The plastic piece above the dash sems to negate a neat wiring solution for my Zumo, so ordered a Quadlock mount for the 12m bar and will use my phone if needed.

My bike has the multimedia wotsit, but the nav element is supposed to be a bit crap.

Going to see if I can pair the bike/phone/Cardo this afternoon and go from there.

Oh I appreciate there are solutions, but that one isn't for me Neil. Good to see the wiring can slip down there though.

I've been threatening to go minimal for too long, so a map pocket on the tank bag will be standard, backed up with the maps on my phone. Might not even attach the Quadlock stuff yet. Will have a play when it lands.

Currently have Cardo attached to phone only as I have tried several times to connect my phone to the dash and multimedia, but can't seem to get it to connect. Built in maps are apparently crap anyway, but it does show you calls I believe, which could be useful. That said, the dash isn't big, so squashing too much info may be a bit naff. Sadly I will never know if I can't pair the thing.

That's good to hear 👍

Loved it. 200 miles on it today. Comfy, good fuelling, suspension and engine good. Handles and goes lovely. If I’d have known how now these are and how unreliable 13gs’s are…. Considering you can buy these for 12k new and my second 13 that has just had the battery and full suspension replaced is 23k!! Madness

Proof reading required ..... must be hot there !! (PS new ones can be had for less than 12K , and little used below 10 (just))

So by way of update and hopefully in perfectly acceptable English (for Cortina - it can be my autocorrect).
I had the bike for 3 days and covered all sorts of roads in GC including smooth fast twisties, slow climbs with multiple hairpins, wee bit of motorway and some very basic dirt tracking due to my nav getting confused occasionally. 825km covered as the Mrs was at the beach / hotel and I aimed to leave at about 9am and return c4.30pm.

Comparing this to my GS1300, controls were quite intuitive, seat was all day comfy, the bike actually felt longer and hence roomier than my 13 which I can suffer sore knees on.
The front brakes were really good but the rear felt like the pedal needed raised as I couldn’t use it at all.
Suspension seemed to be quality as the ride was good in all situations with limited dive during hard braking.
Quickshifter could be a bit clunky at times but may have been my aggressive use at times.
Noise, bike sounded lobe and gave a burble on the over run , I think it would really suit a slightly noisier can.
Being fussy if I bought one I think I’d buy a slightly taller screen but I’m probably used to the 13’s really effective screen.
The engine was a lot smoother and quieter when compared to a 1300.
Only one issue and the guys in Canary Ride warned me, when you put it in first it bangs and jumps forward - as described by one guy - like a gazelle. I was mostly riding so didn’t really worry about it as I left it in first when parked or if trickling up to a stop it will snick in when you’re rolling to a stop.

Did I like it - absolutely, would I buy one - absolutely, will I chop my 13 in for one.. let’s see. Few more pics of Gc just for the craic

The clunk/lurch is like a small wart on a beautiful girls face, it doesn't really affect anything but it's noticeable and always there.
Same with the Mandello (no surprise there then !! ) I did read somewhere that the latest bikes were much better.

Anyways, glad you enjoyed the Stelvio ,Barry, and at least you got some decent kms on it.

Looks good , sounds good - AND , I have learnt a new word ! "lobe" .... I thought they were things on your ears , clearly they have more than one meaning.
I would still like to try one - maybe I just need to go on a holiday ..............

I Hired a Stelvio in spain this year for a few days. My feelings where it was lacking in power compared to a GS (I'm not sure if they restrict power on hire bikes somehow) and the ground clearance was terrible compared to the GS the pegs ground out way too easy for me.
