Brake check & downloads

I`ve just had the ABS brake check done, I didn`t realise it timed how long the front & rear brakes were on, for over 5700 miles they`ve been on for 5 1/2 hours, 2 seconds of front ABS application & 14 seconds on the rear!
The ECU downloads were also done to my bike, the first ones it`s had AFAIK, & it does seem to have more get up & go around 3k revs & doesn`t seem so jerky at small throtle openings so I`m pleased
I had a very cold & mostly enjoyable round trip of 260 miles to my localish dealer Motorrad central of Glasgow, I went on wednesday & I`ve just thawed out I`m looking into getting a heated vest or jacket now! & must say was quite pleased with the service & price (FOC!)

Anyone else noticed a performance improvement on their bikes after that? mines a 54 plate 12

Yes a recent software update definitely improved the "jerky throttle response" on my bike too

Mine is much smoother through the gears now and less jerky, plus when starting from cold on the centrestand with the sidestand down, the engine no longer cuts out when the rear wheel is freewheeling. Handy as I can push the bike around in neutral with the engine running and the stand down before climbing aboard, whereas before it would shut down on me if I forgot to raise the stand. Anyone else notice this ?

thats just not fair, what about if he was doing 120 on B roads...........no, I spose your right, no excuse.

Yep, mine no longer cuts out when on the centre stand with the side stand down....thought it was me imagining it!

oh well thanks!! I tend to hold it on the brakes when at hilly junctions etc you tend to get a lot of hills & the like round here anyway I was braking for longer last year in the IOM coming down from 120 mph for those 80mph corners

I wouldn't bother with the heated jacket as your +12V accessory socket will have probably stopped working correctly now due to the update!

Just goes to show how good your riding skills are as 2 and 14 seconds ABS is very good. I just makes you think did I really need to spend the extra to have ABS

It seems odd that the front brake application time exceed rear given the LBS. I think its a good idea to let abs kick-in now and then to see what up with it. Also, where is it documented that their are only n SW updates permitted? I have seen references in threads only.

Not at all if LBS applies the front first and I do not know if that is the case ?

Just goes to show that I have become a lazy braker and must start using that right foot again.

It`s very rare I use the back & front brakes together so it looks like to linked brakes time both back & front on my bike. The ABS needs to be checked on the PDI so I assume it was checked before I rode it & the rear I did have a play to see if it worked!

ABS Pump

I had my "complimentary ABS check" done last week, and oddly enough, even although it passed the standard breaks test, the GT-1 said the ABS Pump sensors were outside of permitted parameters...

After a quick call by the dealer (Balderstons - Peterborough) to BMW, a new ABS Pump was fitted 24hrs later, not bad considering i'm told with parts and labour it would've been around a £1500 minimum job!!!

I'm told all 3 ECU's were updated, and my fuel mapping was updated, but i didn't get a copy of the stats you're all referring to, how long my ABS had been engaged... shame, would've been interesting to know!

Bike running lovely, smoother all the way through, especially at the 3-4k area.
