Pulled apart the Brembo calipers on my newly acquired R65 this morning.

Slight rust on the piston and orange fluid :eek, not the worst I've had but a reminder to us all to change the brake fluid at least annually.
If this happens over here in a dry climate what sort of problems do you UK blokes have?

Brakes on GSs struggle enough without having to pump lumps of corrosion through the system. :mmmm

Also on maintenance -that black shit that drains out when you change your fork oil does not enhance performance :). I reckon it is worthwhile changing your fork oil when you do your brake fluid, neither job is particularly difficult for the average bloke and not that expensive if you pay someone to do it.

Back to the shed to find the caliper o ring that leapt from view on reassembly :blast

Had a look in the master cylinder while I was fiddling -looked like some one had deposited the contents of used handkerchief in there

Bike is externally in v good conditon with lots of cleaning and polishing having been done. Cleaning must be easier than routine maintenance
All good now, system cleaned, new fluid and brakes that work :thumb

Seems a bit excessive, old boy.
If your brake fluid is goosed in a year, I suspect that there is something amis.

Haynes and Clymer manuals and BM owners manual recommend changing the brake fluid annually for optimum performance.

You can get away with longer intervals but I prefer to do it as recommended -it's a simple and inexpensive job. :thumb2
