Brake pad wear

When the WC made its debut I read a few posts about exceptionally heavy brake pad wear. Is this still a feature of ownership or are there any WC pilots with different experience?

They recently changed the compound of the BMW brand brake pads for longer life.

It's the rear that's the main problem. It's used a lot by the link system especially at slow speeds. I know this because my rear calliper wasn't working for a wile and it was clearly evident just how much the rear is in use.

My 14 year GSA certainly got through rear pads pretty quick.
I changed them at 7K and they were pretty well finished whereas the fronts had plenty of life left in them

Seems particularly aggressive compared to the hexhead. Is the 'new' compound sacrificing the rotor instead ?
Is there anyone with a WC who's riding style rarely uses the brakes and gets similar mileage out of the WC pads compared to the hexhead ( former hexhead owners ).

My LC 7800 to date pads only about 15% worn, at 5800 at service dealer reported 10% worn, so far looking like should get circa 11k like got on TC

I got my 14 model in September 2013 and at 4500 miles the rear pads needed replacing. I've just had the 12000 mile service done and the replacement pads with 7500 miles on them look like new. So I think it's sorted.

Still on original pads (F & R) and I'm at 6900mls. Still plenty of pad material when serviced at 6300mls.

Sold my July 13 GS with 12k miles rear pads were about 50% worn. My new bike has different pads.

First set of rear pads were replaced free during the 6000 service. Now at 20000 and the rears need replacing soon, the fronts are still good. I have noticed wear on the disks, a small ridge round the outside edges, something I did not see in 36000 miles on my old GS.

Mine had 50% left on the rear pads at the 6600 mile service. 2000 miles later they were worn out in the Alps. Thankfully the BMW dealers in Trento sorted it out. The new pads have a completely different backing material, so I guess they're the new compound d?

When I tried a 15 plate courtesy bike , the rears seemed less grabby when using the front brake, saying that my 14 plate is on 10k miles and they are 60 percent worn. Doesn't seem too bad on wear, but you can feel them being applied via the fronts round town.

2015 bikes onwards have the updated pads. Mine were checked at 5000 ish miles, and they still had 90% left.

12k and only half worn to date. 2015 models have silver backing on the rear pads, not sure what it does but certainly lasting better than rear pads on my 2013 model which were down to the metal in less than 4k.

I don't think I'll be abel to afford to on the WC so might look for a nice TC instead
