Hi, trying to establish the wear rate on the rear pads on my 2021 1250 GS / when to change them. They are currently just over 2mm. Can anyone please advise the pad thickness on a new set of OEM rear brake pads?

according to the Ferodo catalogue, the FDB2006 fitment used on most R1250 is 7.7mm including backplate

Hi

I know it's not very bloke-like, but a quick look in the owner's manual provides the corporate answer.
Bill thx for taking the time to reply and to upload the image. I'm aware of the 1mm minimum - just trying to establish the thickness when new to establish the wear rate / c. How many more

miles before the need changing.

When I got my new 1200 hexhead it used wear out the organic pads in about 4000 miles, way shorter than the service interval! Soon switched to sintered pads

I dont think theres any straight forward answer to your question. I personally change my ebc rear pads every service of 6k but ive got friends who will get at least 2 services or 12k out of theirs!
It really depends o how hard you ride your steed and how much of your rear brake you like to use, i use mine more than my fronts and is probably the reason i get 30k plus out of the fronts :ROFLMAO: :thumby:

Its worth keeping an eye on the rear brake & pads , because before I brought my 1200 gs lc I did quite a lot of research on things that seem to cause problems.
When looking at used 1200 gs for sale I would look up the past MOT history and I was quite shocked at how many had failed or had a advisory for the rear break function.

When i replaced the rear original pads on my 1250 with an EBC set the friction material was 3.5mm thick.

I just got RS back from a service yesterday.

Just under 14k kms on the bike......pads (and I can't remember which way round) are 30% - 40% worn.

If that gives any indication.

The rears wear through quick, as that's mainly where the TC applies braking for any wheel slip sensing.

As above, i had a set of organic EBC pads go in 4K miles. The sintered ones i replaced them with have been on there 6K miles and have good life still.

Note, that you will go through 2 x pads to 1 x discs. So it's worth also measuring your disc thickness to replace them together if needed. OEM cost is circa £110 for a disc, and £40 for pads.

Han, Thx. Just checking that it's the new pads that were 3.5mm not the ones you replaced? If do, mine are less than 50% worn?

Yes new EBC pads had 3.5mm friction material so would assume new OEM would be similar.
