Looking to change my original brake pads rears are very low
But the fronts are still ok for a few thousand more.
But thinking it may be just as well to change both and the fluids at the same time

I looked at this a month or so ago and the long milers recommended staying with Brembo.

I think it was EBC that also offer pads however their site says the pads must be used in conjunction with their discs. As i only needed new pads I stuck with Brembo. When it comes to new discs i may consider switching over to EBC as they are about half the price and i'd be surprised if they only lasted half as long.

As i recall front pads (658 so only one pair of pads) about £50 and rear £30 from dealer if that helps with any comparisons.

Currently the only online place i can find for new ones is...

http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/brembo-front-pads-bmw-f-gs-51978010.htm?from=googleshop_uk

...but i'm not at all sure about the site.

Best,

S

Thanks S
Gone for the Brembo, on ebay with free postage so £83.00 all in, originals have done nearly 20t and I think the fronts are good enough for another few thousand.
So like you I think you get what you pay for, and the look neat in Racing Red, and Brembo have a fantastic reputation in Car brakes.

Just had my rear brake pads replaced at 18k service. Same as yours, fronts OK but rears worn. £27.56p + vat at BMW dealer. (F800GS)

Just had my rear pads replaced at dealers at 16,233 miles, realised last Saturday how worn they were, had a 12,000 mile service done including a brake service but there was no way they were going to last to 18,000 mile service:eek:

Mechanic did suggest (respectfully!) that I don`t leave my boot on rear brake, I pointed out that I don`t in fact I find the brake lever too high and with limited movement in my ankle I have to lift my foot to use rear brake so I could`nt accidentially ride the brake!

Hi Dean,

Did you go Ferodo or EBC? And what has been you experience of them so far in terms of longevity and wear to discs?

Thanks in advance,

S

EBC, last time before that BMW was fitting them.......

they work thats all I can tell you I do not really monitor the wear of pads or disc as in longetivity (start to finish) other than check they are ok, which they are and when needed I will change them :thumb2 :D

Dean and/or Rusty, do you remember which EBC pads you used?
I just bought a set with the red backing. Do you have the same??

Surprise surprise :blast

Good discs with cheap pads=ok.
cheap discs with cheap pads= :nono

You don't have to have any particular brand of both together, that's nonsense unless you're building a top top spec racing machine where the qualities of the two are matched up.

If you replace the discs, you should always put in new pads at the same time, but if just replacing pads, any will do (within reason)

I prefer the feel and bedding in of sintered pads, and standard EBC are good value :thumb2

Beware using non-oe pads! I didnt want to pay BMW prices so I went with the EBC's being recommended on the forum. That was 6k miles ago (24k total for bike) and Brian Giles just informed me that not only do the pads need replacing (oe's lasted 18k) the discs are now fooked. He recommended using nothing but oe.

I'm going to replace my pads with Brembo (not BMW's) and I'll change the discs at some point for Brembo's also - BMW £250 ea!!!!

Anyone using non oe pads and not getting significant disc wear? With what pads?

Cheers

Rich

Always go for the best - always :thumb

Manufacturers original ;)

Over 72,000 miles on my original front .... and still going strong :thumb

:beerjug:
+1 40,000 on the front only half worn. Tried EBC on the rear and they went through very quickly so went for OE and still going strong.
Cheapest aint always best but for longer wear make sure to check frequently that the calipers sliders are free.
