My experience of Bmw is that they treat there customers very different to MG.
I think it is mainly down to the dealer, I had an excellent dealer in Chester Motorrad (Now Chester KTM, not the jokers at Halliwell Jones) who really fought my corner and got a result for me in my corrosion issues with the GS LC and the RT LC. BMW were really angling towards it being my fault, my cleaning regime, the products I used, the U.K. road salt so we danced a merry dance until things were authorised. Without the dealer backing me up, I fully believe BMW were just looking at o pay lip service to it all and fob me off. They kept me in the loop and copied in on all the correspondence.
With any of this, a good dealer is the key, and this is the major failing in your scenario so far IMHO, the factory could do more though, especially now they have seen the evidence.
