Right, back to business..

The following morning and with slightly sore and jaded heads we set off for Crozon on the west coast after a recommendation form a chap working at the camp site. However, on arrival it was just another market town so we headed off to the coastal town of Morgan just to the south of Crozon. Clearly a popular location for local bikers so we stopped for coffee and a quick bite to eat before exploring more of the west coast..

From here we headed south to an area called Trefeuntec that Jon and I had visited last year. A lovely inlet where fishing can be done and we had a view that we'd catch our dinner for the evening..

Needless to say the only thing we caught was seaweed, would've helped if we'd brought some bait with us

After spending a few hours trying to catch something we decided that it was time to head back and get the dinner ready after a quick visit to the local supermarket...

I am going camping on Thursday!!! First time since I was 18. Thrown money at the problem......... 2 nights at the Touratech Travel event in Brecon. There might be a rather expensive tent and accessories available soon after. Obviously I shall be going to a hotel for two nights afterwards to be cleaned and fed

Really looking forward to it especially after this thread. I shall draw the line at catering though. Apparently they have staff there for that sort of thing! I am going to try to resist buying any tat for my bike whilst there but can't make any promises

What we hadn't factored in was that Wednesday was a Bank Holiday in France meaning everything was closed.. No supermarkets or shops open anywhere. So when we arrived back at the campsite the first thing we did was take look at what food we had stored in the fridge on site. We soon found we had a packet of sausages, a few peppers, onions, mushrooms, some chorizo type sausage and some Saint-Agur cheese and a french loaf.. We also still had around half a bottle of Gentleman Jack left so, as it was our last evening at this campsite we decided to cook the peppers, onions and mushrooms in a pan with the chopped chorizo sausage and made some sauce form the juices and the Saint-Agur cheese. This combined with the sausages was actually really nice and we decided it was the best meal we'd had all week!!

Now all 3 of us are big fans of Game of Thrones and we'd all missed the battle of Winterfell episode which aired on the Monday evening. At some point during Tuesday i'd had a quick read of Sky news and read a small spoiler that contained some details of the episode... Obviously caring is sharing so i shared this very small detail with the chaps and all of us wanted to watch the episode. So on Wed evening after we'd eaten dinner Jon asked us if we wanted to set something up to watch it..... We waited until dark, had the fire going in the background, Gentleman Jack in hand and watched the episode under the stars on Jon's iPad which was connected to his bluetooth speaker.... Brilliant!!

By the time this had finished we were too and it was time to hit the sack.. We'd decided that as the ferry crossing home departed at 0900 on Sat we wanted to stay fairly close to La Havre on Friday night. As a result of this we decided we would stay in the lovely port town of Honfleur Friday night in a rented apartment. This meant we'd leave Saint Coulitz on Thursday morning with a view of arriving in Saint-Marcin for our last evening of camping overnight Thursday...

You're lucky you are home, weather has deteriorated and today is strong wind and rain (and the ferry from Roscoff this morning was cancelled last minute).

Looks like a good trip. I've been camping mainly for the last 3 weeks - and eating well on one pot concoctions, supported by beer and wine. Trip report will follow, just need to get home first (via Dent)

Right, last instalment from me...


The ride from Saint-Coulitz to Saint-Marsan was fairly uneventful. We set the Nav to avoid motorways and toll roads but used the fastest route and we had some great riding, long sweeping A roads with a few (unexpected) hairpins thrown in. Very little traffic to bother us and a few rice burner riders who got in the way but other than that it was a fairly uneventful ride. Arriving in Saint Marcin we were a little deflated..

The ad for the campsite gives you the impression it's set in a wood right on the beach, in a wood it is, right on a beach it is not...you can see from the photos if you look really closely you'll see the beach in the distance...Certainly not walking distance..

Once we got set up we decided to and speak to the owner to determine where the local supermarket was so we could get some supplies for the evening. The owner advised that there was a small supermarket in the town but there was also a pub run by an Englishman who does proper English home cooking....

Minds were quickly made up and off to the pub we went...

Now, this truly is a typical English pub serving the same shite English food you'd expect in any shite English pub. Run by a chap from Manchester (who was a little annoying to say the least) and the menu consisted of Gammon & Chips, Burger and Chips, Chicken Curry and Chips and chips.... After a few pints we couldn't care less and certainly couldn't be bothered to find a supermarket and start cooking so we ordered the chicken curry and chips... It was exactly what you'd get if you mixed any chicken breast with any supermarket curry sauce and added a few chips... Not a great example of good English pub food... Anyway we stuck around for a few hours, drinking a few pints and playing pool and by around 2200 we'd had enough and headed back to the tents to hit the sack..

We've now reached Friday and our last full day in France, we were booked on the 0915 ferry from La Havre and todays destination was Honfleur. The weather was good and the roads that took us there were great. We had a few stops along the way to stretch our legs and take on some fluid and the riding was uneventful..

Arriving in Honfleur at around 1500 our first task was to find the apartment we had hired for the evening as we didn't want to be packing away our camping gear the following morning. After we found the apartment and got the keys the first challenge was to find somewhere to leave the bikes. We opted for the pavement where there was a little more room so we didn't block any pedestrians wanting to cross the road...

Once we'd unpacked the bikes we had to make a decision....

The apartment came with x1 double bed and x1 sofa bed. None of us wanted to share a double so we did the only thing we could think of to determine who got the bed and who got the sofa... Flip coins, it was soon determined that Tyrone would get the bed and I would get the sofa. Jon was to sleep on the floor on his air mattress..

Now, remember earlier on in the story i mentioned that Jon wanted to go to Decathlon to buy a new air pump. Well he did, however it was one designed to be plugged into mains power... Jon wanted one to use on his bike so he took it back for a refund.....
A repair to the old one was needed before trying to inflate it from his bike in the middle of Honfleur...

Anyway he managed to get it inflated and as soon as beds were sorted and showers had we headed into town for the evening...
