I know it's quicker etc.

But what is the standard package?

Is it basically unlimited phone and web access for a fixed monthly fee or what?

Are there other goodies that come with it?

Also your experiences with it would be nice - ready to take the plunge now.

Don't normally get free phone, but most are unlimited net access and can use the phone at the same time which can be a big bonus if the wife chats a lot. Standard package is activation, ISP and modem and prices range from approx £15 - £30 depending on what you need, don't just go for the easy option like BT as there are a few better ones out there, I'm with Pipex and can't believe I survived on a modem for so long, no going back

If you are going ADSL - ie through 'phone line and not through a cable provider like NTL - then remember that the monthly fee does NOT include line rental either - that is on top of the broadband costs and completely seperate.

I.e. if you have BT and get ADSL through btopenworld or Pipex etc you will get a bill from BT for your line and calls and a bill from your broadband provider for your monthly broadband rental.

Re people sharing their experiences - pretty much everyone will say they think it is fantastic. Your choice is what provider and what extra services they offer (some give you spam filtering, parental controls toreduce the chances of the kids seeing porn etc). Check out ADSL Guide for comparisons and other user's thoughts.

Cheers,

Mark

Any thoughts?
Seems lke a reasonable deal. If you currently have a BT phone line then keep paying them line rental (tenner a month). That way, if there is ever a problem with the internet service provider it is a simple job to cancel their service and sign up with someone else. ISPs come and go - good ones get taken over by a larger competitor and crap ones go bust.

See markyp's post for a website to check if a company is any good

Just changed to Wanadoo broadband. Got the special offer pack from Dixons - £17.99 which includes the adsl modem software and two months free. Threafter its £17.99 per month for 1mb/ps (very quick) with a download limit of 2GB per month.

After being on dial up forever (only just got broadband in our area) I can't get over the speed. I downloaded a 10.5 MB security update in about 40 secs. It would have taken me about 2 hours before.

That looks like a pretty good deal Jammy....

The important bit is to make sure the BB is UNCAPPED.......

I pay about that for a slightly faster connection (750kbs give or take the odd bit) but without free calls.

Make sure you're not tied in to a long contract or anything but otherwise, loks good!

PS you really won't ever want to go back...seriously, If i were looking for a new house, not being on a BB network would rule it out for me now.
