Sorry mate, that was your bike. The holes in the sides were there and the cut down seat are giveaways. I don't know what they did to her but she was in a poor state and the front of the engine was knackered, covered in oil and dirt and there was silicon sealant all over the right side indicating the gasket had been recently replaced. The clocks were damaged and had odd burn marks along the top as well. Obviously someone else has been using it since she left your ownership.
well we certainly have a difference of opinion in what constitutes a sorry state. The man from BMW clearly didn't think it was in a sorry state. As he signed it off.
To me these bikes would constitute a sorry state.
saying the clocks were damaged suggests the clocks don't work. This is not true.
after I installed the Touratech screen the sun had been magnified and left two melt marks on the very outer plastic of the clocks. This did not break the clocks themselves.
It is well documented by others here.

You are right about the gasket. It had been "fixed" four times previously but I think this appears to be common to a lot of the 800's. I had ridden the bike back from Austria and gave it a jet wash the night before it was picked up. I decided not to clean the oil from the leaking gasket because I figured BMW would pass it off as ok and I thought why should some poor bugger fork out 4k for a bike only to find the gasket gone. Did the dirt stick to it, I'm sure it did. Did I detail and polish the engine. No. Was the engine corroded. No.
The bike has done 35,000 relatively easy road miles. Has been to over 26 countries and thus has traveled. It was never wheelied (I cant do wheelies
I know before it went back Srace7 had seen it, as did Greger, IDE508, zippygser, andreels, GunzNBombz, Chas820, Ewan, Ted1972, Micky and Si Johnston. I'd be interested if they thought it was in a sorry state as it gives an unfair impression of how I cared for the bike. Just my 2p
admittedly embarking on a 150 mile journey with straps in these positions wont have done the panels much good.
